York Theatre Company celebrates the legendary librettist and lyricist Tom Jones with Musicals in Mufti: The Tom Jones Festival. The series opener, The Show Goes On, a portfolio of theater songs by Mr. Jones and his longtime collaborator Harvey Schmidt has direction by Pamela Hunt and features Tom Jones (The Fantasticks), Graham Rowat (Guys and Dolls), Stephanie Umoh (Ragtime, York’s Falling for Eve) and Susan Watson (Follies). According to an Equity Chorus Call notice, SUPER FLY, the musical based on the 1972 film directed by Gordon Parks, has taken new steps toward a Broadway production. The Mottola Group and The Dodgers Developmental Lab will hold a workshop March 12 - April 14, 2012. This workshop is being held in anticipation of a future Broadway run as the notice states. Bill T. Jones is on board to direct and choreograph. (more...)

Before there was South Park, Team America, Orgazmo, or even The Book of Mormon, Trey Parker completed a film that's become a cult favorite; CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL. This hilarious, low rent production, features all the elements that would crop up in the aforementioned works, combining gore, sophomoric humor and a knack for writing catchy little tunes that stick like glue in your memory. Happily, Morning Star Productions has decided to mount a live production, and it's every bit as funny as the original.
