Commissioned Portrait of Suzanne Usdan Donated to Usdan Center

An oil portrait of the late Suzanne Lemberg Usdan, a Founding Trustee of the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, has been donated to the Center by Dr. Jerrold Ross, a former Trustee of the Center and its longtime President. Dr. Ross is Dean of the Department of Education at St. John's University in Queens, and Academic Vice Presidentof the University's Staten Island campus. The portrait, painted by internationally known artist Norman Blackwell, commemorates the 10th anniversary of Mrs. Usdan's death. (more...)

While individuals half her age are barely surviving the rigors of 9 to 5, musical comedy legend and icon, Ms. Carol Channing (along with husband, Harry Kullijian) starts her day on Oct 23rd with a 6:00am flight from Palm Springs , CA, to appear at a Barnes & Noble to speak and sign copies of her new CD entitled 'For Heaven Sake' in Fort Collins, CO, followed by department tours and a sold out master class before the students and facility of Colorado State University (CSU) and wrapping her evening by hosting an exhibit unveiling dedicated to the fashions and life of her dear friend, the late Mr. Blackwell. By popular demand, a 3rd performance had been added for comic, former child star, outspoken activist, TV Land Award winner, and author Alison Arngrim when she return to New York with 'Confessions of a Prairie Bitch.' In addition to the previously announced shows on June 17 & 19 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, another performance has been added on Friday, June 18 at 7:30pm. This series of live performances also marks the release of Arngrim's book of the same title (from HarperCollins' It Books) and the kick-off a national tour (with stops in Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston and more). AN EVENING AT LA CAGE Starring Marino Ends Its 24 Year Run

AN EVENING AT LA CAGE has taken its last curtsy after a 24 year run. The cast, led by Frank Marino, were informed of this unfortunate closing after Monday's performance. There are rumors that the producers are trying to negotiate for a TV show and hopes to reopen the show in the future.
La Cage is the fourth longest running show on the Vegas strip.
When An Evening at La Cage opened at the Riviera in 1985, skeptic casino owners gave producer Norbert Aleman and his young star, female impersonator Frank Marino, three months to prove themselves. Obviously, they did a good job of doing just that. It's 20 years later and La Cage and Frank Marino have held up very well - of course, for Marino, a little cosmetic surgery hasn't hurt. (more...)
