The Centre Theater's LUCKY STIFF Opens June 1

The Centre Theater presents LUCKY STIFF, a hilarious musical comedy by Flaherty and Ahrens, June 1st through June 24th, in the fourth floor theater of the Montgomery County Cultural Center, 208 DeKalb Street in Norristown. Stratford Shakespeare Festival to Host Shakespeare Symposium, 6/2

Christopher Ashley to Direct Film Adaptation of Ahrens & Flaherty's LUCKY STIFF, Starring Jason Alexander, Nikki James et al.

Several Tony Award-winners are teaming up to bring an adaptation of the 1988 musical Lucky Stiff to the screen. The show, based on Michael Butterworths 1965 novel The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, was written by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty and first performed at New Yorks Playwrights Horizons where it won the Richard Rogers Production Award before going on to London and hundreds of international productions. Ahrens & Flaherty went on to win the Tony for their musical Ragtime as well as two Academy Award nominations. Other notable credits include Once On This Island and Seussical. Ahrens has adapted the play for the screen, while Flaherty and Ahrens have written additional songs. ( more...)

The 2012 winter tour commences in Canberra 3 to 8 July; then Newcastle 10 to 15 July; followed by Adelaide 17 to 22 July, Hobart 16 to 18 August, Albury 21 to 23 August and finally Wollongong 24 & 25 August. Austin Pendleton Directs Boston Midsummer Opera's DON PASQUALE, 7/25-29

For its seventh season Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents the comic piece, Donizettis Don Pasquale, playing at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University for three performances only, July 25, 27, and 29. Obie Award winner/Tony Award nominee Austin Pendleton directs the fully staged and costumed production. Music director and nationally acclaimed conductor Susan Davenny Wyner leads the performances, which will be performed with orchestra and sung in English. Chicago's Grant Park Music Festival Kicks Off in July

Summer in Chicago continues this July with the Grant Park Music Festival, led by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Carlos Kalmar and the Grammy Award-nominated Grant Park Orchestra, along with Chorus Director Christopher Bell and the Grant Park Chorus in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicagos Millennium Park. Ethiopians Mebratu, Tongolu and Desalegn Selected to Attend Cannes Film Festival

The International Emerging Film Talent Association (IEFTA) and the Ethiopian Film Initiative (EFI) announced today the three filmmakers selected for a week-long visit to Monaco and Cannes for workshops, programs and events happening during the 2012 Cannes film festival.
