The Getty Museum and Playwrights' Arena in Los Angeles is pleased to offer Euripides' Helen, the seventh annual outdoor theatrical production in the Getty Villa's Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater. Presenting a surprising twist on the legend of Helen of Troy, Euripides' rarely performed Helen will feature a cast of thirteen led by distinguished actor Maxwell Caulfield as Menelaos, King of Sparta, and Rachel Sorsa as Helen. Directed by Jon Lawrence Rivera, artistic director of Los Angeles-based Playwrights' Arena, this production debuts a new adaptation by playwright Nick Salamone and a score by composer and musical director David O. Paulden Hall Productions in association with folie a deux present I Am A Camera by John Van Druten, directed by Anthony Lau and featuring set designer James Turner, costume designer Sarah Booth, composer and musical director Angus McRae, with producers Paulden Hall Productions and Folie a deux. The show will run for a three-week season at The Vault at Southwark Playhouse, from Wednesday September 5 - Saturday September 22. Press night is Thursday 6 September at 7.30pm. (more...)

Feinstein's at Loews Regency will continue its Fall 2012 season with the return of singer and television star Linda Purl, in her new show "Midnight Caravan: Travels through the Great New York Clubs." Recapturing the glamour of New York's swank hotspots like The Copacabana and The Blue Angel, Purl invokes the smoky, after-hours world of the 1940s and 50s. With musical direction by Tedd Firth, "Midnight Caravan" includes songs such as "Easy Living," "I Thought About You," and "My Romance," to name just a few.

Soprano Ailyn Pérez Headlines in Moscow, Salzburg, Ravinia and More, Summer 2012 by BWW

Fresh from a triumphant spring crowned by her 2012 Richard Tucker Award win, Ailyn Perez will spend her summer in the spotlight, headlining major productions with leading companies on both sides of the Atlantic. Her tour begins in Moscow, where she sings the role of Suzel in Mascagni's L'amico Fritz at the Moscow State Philharmonic Society (June 25). A brief stop in New York is highlighted by a special performance at the Greene Space (June 27) celebrating her Tucker Award win. From there, she heads to Ohio to sing Violetta in Verdi's La traviata at Cincinnati Opera (July 25-29), followed by performances as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflote with the Chicago Symphony at Ravinia (Aug 16-18). The summer comes to a peak at the Salzburg Festival (Aug 23), when the lyric soprano reprises her star turn as Mimi in Puccini's La boheme. (more...)

Who was one of the most prolific singers of romantic pop in the 60s/70s/80s? And who created the little gems she sang? If you answered Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach, you win today's prize. Well, ...on Sunday, August 5 Bruce Kimmel's Kritzerland paid tribute to the musical genius that is Burt Bacharach - most songs with lyrics by Hal David - @ Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal. With a splendid group of singers that included Kim Huber, Danny Gurwin, Dennis Kyle, Jane Noseworthy, Daisy Eagan and Lisa Livesay...and Mr. Kimmel as congenial host, the evening was the 24th Kritzerland show, and most definitely one of its finest.
