Jackie Hoffman & John Epperson Set to Lead ONCE UPON A MATTRESS Benefit for Transport Group, 6/17 by BWW News Desk - May 22, 2013
Transport Group, the Drama Desk, Outer Critics' Circle, and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced that it will present a one-night-only, all-star concert of the acclaimed 1959 classic Broadway musical Once Upon A Mattress on Monday, June 17 at 7pm at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre in the Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 West 42 Street. Jackie Hoffman will star as Princess Winnifred with John 'Lypsinka' Epperson as The Queen Aggravain, and the evening will be directed by five-time Drama Desk nominee, Jack Cummings III. Composer Mary Rodgers will take part in a post-show discussion with the audience. Further casting will be announced at a later date. The benefit concert for Transport Group is co-produced by John Epperson. (more...)

GIANT to be Licensed Through R&H Theatricals by BWW News Desk - May 21, 2013
Ghostlight Records will release the Original Cast Recording of the acclaimed epic musical GIANTonline and in stores on May 21, 2013. Performance rights for GIANT will be licensed through R&H Theatricals, a division of Rodgers & Hammerstein, an Imagem Company. Applications for performance are not yet being accepted and will be announced at a later date. In the meantime all inquiries should be directed to Theatre@rnh.com. Haven Theatre Opens HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, 7/5 by BWW News Desk - May 15, 2013
Haven Theatre Chicago will present the company's inaugural production, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, July 5 - August 11, at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, written by John Cameron Mitchell, with lyrics and music by Stephen Trask is directed by Kyle Trent with music direction by Kory Danielson. The newly formed Haven Theatre strives to conserve, renew and reinvent theatre traditions while providing ongoing support and mentorship to emerging artists. The performance schedule is Fridays and Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. Preview performances areFriday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 at 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 7 at 6 p.m. Opening night is Monday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. Preview performance tickets are $20 and the all other tickets prices are $32. Brian Anthony Wilson, Tim Daly and More Set for DTF's Upcoming Season by BWW News Desk - May 14, 2013
A host of Broadway talent as well as several film and television stars will be appearing on the Dorset Theatre Festival stage this summer. Tim Daly, well known for his work on Wings (NBC) and Private Practice (ABC) will headline in the first production of the season, Theresa Rebeck's The Scene. Joining him will be Geoffrey Arend (ABC's Body of Proof) and well-known NY stage actress Mary Bacon (most recently seen in the Michael John LaChiusa/Sybille Pearson musical Giant as well as on Bway in Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll). They will be joined by newcomer Carolyn Holding (The Philadelphia Story/Chautauqua). Adrienne Campbell-Holt will direct the production. (more...)

NYC Opera Accepting Submissions for 2013-14 VOX by BWW News Desk - May 07, 2013
Today New York City Opera announced that it is accepting submissions for the 2013-14 VOX, the company's workshop for new American operas, presented in conjunction with OPERA America's New Works Forum. Composers can submit an excerpt of either a completed work or a work-in-progress. The selections cannot run longer than fifteen minutes. VOX is the only program in the country that provides full-instrumental and vocal performance to unpublished works. The submission deadline is June 30, 2013 and the selected pieces will be performed at the NYU Skirball Center on January 14, 2014. (more...)

The Lortel Awards were handed out on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at NYU Skirball Center, hosted by acclaimed stage and screen actors Aasif Mandvi and Maura Tierney. The Kleban Foundation has announced that the 23rd annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has gone to Daniel Mate and the 23rd annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has gone to Alan Gordon.
