Artists in Partnership Presents 11th Annual Cabaret Festival

Artists in Partnership (AIP), a non-profit cultural arts organization, will host its 11th Annual Cabaret Festival May 17-19 at the Long Beach Public Library, 111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY. All performances are FREE to the public. The festival will be a celebration of the cabaret genre honoring the Great American Songbook with performances by renowned local and New York City-based artists. (more...)

Legendary singer-actress Lainie Kazan and versatile performer Maurice Hines will be honored, along with 16 others, at the 28th Annual Bistro Awards gala, which recognizes outstanding achievement in New York cabaret, jazz, and comedy. Who would have ever thought that the New York Cabaret scene would end up having almost as many awards shows as the film industry? The Nightlife Awards Show at Town Hall was presented on January 14, and the newly established BroadwayWorld.com New York Cabaret Awards Show filled the Metropolitan Room on February 21. The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) will hold it's 27th Annual MAC Awards Show on March 21 at B.B. King's Blues Club. But next up is the 28th Annual Bistro Awards Gala, which recognizes outstanding achievement in New York cabaret, jazz, and comedy, on March 4 at 6:30pm at the Gotham Comedy Club (208 West 23rd Street, Between 7th & 8th Ave). The evening, under the direction of Shellen Lubin, will once again be co-hosted by comedian and actor Jim David, and will feature performances from most of this year's Bistro-winning artists. Patriarch Partners, LLC, a New York based investment firm and holding company, announced that Lynn Tilton, Patriarch's founder and CEO, will assume the role of CEO for portfolio companies Stila Cosmetics and Jane Cosmetics, effective immediately. Patriarch acquired Stila Cosmetics and Jane Cosmetics in April and December of 2009, respectively. (more...)

Acting Up Stage and Factory Theatre are partnering to present Do You Want What I Have Got? A Craigslist Cabaret this February in Toronto. A brand new Canadian musical, the show is fresh from a sold-out run at Vancouver's PuSh Festival and features original musical by Veda Hille and Bill Richardson. For a bit of extra fun, Acting Up Stage and Factory Theatre partnered with Jennifer Walls and SINGular Sensation to host a cabaret contest featuring videos inspired by Craigslists ads. BWW is thrilled to bring its readers the winning video!
Having sold-out its extended run at Vancouver's PuSh Festival in Jan 2012, this original musical by Veda Hille & Bill Richardson sets actual Craigslist postings to music in a 90 minute song-cycle. Both hilarious and surprisingly poignant, Do You Want What I Have Got? explores contemporary humanity through the lens of Craigslist-an online classified site with over 50 million ads posted each month. Opera Colorado Launches $1.2M Fundraising Campaign

Opera Colorado has launched a $1.2 million fundraising campaign to raise funds to ensure its two remaining productions in the 2013 season continue as planned and to assist with the reorganization plan. The Opera's Board has led the charge, pledging to match the first $350,000 that is raised dollar for dollar by the campaign's completion date of March 30th, 2013. The campaign, called "Stories that Sing: Be a Voice for Opera Colorado," will be comprised of a series of public and private fundraising events over the next two months. Individuals can also contribute at any upcoming Opera Coloradoperformance or via the Opera's website at operacolorado.org/support. A vital part of Denver's cultural ecology, Opera Colorado celebrates its 30th season this year. (more...)

Opera Colorado to Reorganize, Present Two-Production Seasons in 2013, 2014

Opera Colorado announced today that the company is embarking on a restructuring plan that will allow the Opera to continue its commitment to bringing exceptional programming and educational resources to Colorado, while stabilizing the company for the future. Opera Colorado will undergo a reorganization of its operating procedures that includes moving to a two-production season for 2013 and 2014. It has also launched a $1.2 million fundraising campaign to raise funds to both pay down the Opera's existing debt and to ensure its two remaining productions in the 2013 season continue as planned, with a goal of completion by March 30th, 2013. A vital part of Denver's cultural ecology, Opera Colorado celebrates its 30th season this year. (more...)
