As BroadwayWorld last reported in October, Rebecca producer Ben Sprecher is still working to bring the much-delayed musical to Broadway in Fall 2015. Fans need wait no longer for a taste of what the show will sound like though! SMALL AXE Begins Next Month at The Theatre Centre

In January The Theatre Centre and Project: Humanity present Small Axe, a new piece of documentary theatre that brings to the stage stories of lesbian, gay and transgender (LGBT) people of colour from Jamaica and the Jamaican-Canadian Diaspora. Their voices, alongside the voice of playwright Andrew Kushnir, contribute to an unflinching and timely exploration of what it means for a white queer artist to engage with injustice in a black community. Investigating homophobia and racism, intersectionality and privilege, Small Axe is on stage Jan. 17 to Feb. 1 at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St. W.).

He continued this theme onstage in Private Lives, and on screen in Brief Encounter and once again in his most produced play internationally Blithe Spirit, now onstage in a sterling production at the Ahmanson through January 18, and starring the one and only Angela Lansbury.

Today in 1989, City of Angels opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 879 performances. City of Angels is a musical comedy with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart. The musical weaves together two plots, the 'real' world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay, and the 'reel' world of the fictional film. The musical is an homage to the film noir genre of motion pictures that rose to prominence in the 1940s. It was directed by Michael Blakemore with sets designed by Robin Wagner and costumes by Florence Klotz.

Kristin Scott Thomas will play the Queen in a new version of Peter Morgan's The Audience. Stephen Daldry's production will preview at the Apollo Theatre from 21 April 2015, with press night on 5 May 2015 and is booking to 25 July 2015. The Theatre Centre and Project: Humanity will present the world premiere of Small Axe, a piece of documentary theatre led by playwright/performer Andrew Kushnir and director Alan Dilworth. In development since 2011 as part of The Theatre Centre's Residency Program, Small Axe looks at the experiences of lesbian and gay people of colour from Jamaica and the Jamaican-Canadian diaspora, while investigating the intersection of homophobia and racism and what it means to put oneself at the centre of this dynamic. Featuring Sarah Afful, Michael Blake, Lisa Codrington, Chy Ryan Spain, Marcel Stewart and Kushnir, Small Axe will be on stage Jan. 17 to Feb. 1 at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen St. W.).
