The organizers behind Australia's largest disability-specific film festival, the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival, held their official U.S. launch of Focus on Ability USA March 7th at the Garry Marshall Theatre in Los Angeles this weekend. The evening celebrated inclusion through the art of storytelling in their continued effort to raise awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities around the world. 

National Disability Theatre has received a $50,000 grant from the Ford Foundation. These funds will support the National Disability Theatre's mission of employing professional theatre artists who create fully accessible, world-class theatre and storytelling; change social policy and the nation's narrative about disability culture; and provide a guiding model in accessibility for the arts and cultural sector.

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Jason Mraz will headline Shane's Inspiration's star-studded gala on Friday evening, March 29th at The Beverly Hills Hotel. The 'The Greatest Playground Reimagined' celebration will be co-hosted by Carrie Ann Inaba ( The Talk/Dancing with the Stars). In the U.S., schools were not required to provide special education until 1975. Today, the fight for inclusive education remains a constant battle for parents and students. Speechless, a comedy starring Micah Fowler, a young adult with cerebral palsy, as J.J., a high school senior with cerebral palsy, shines the spotlight on the importance of young adults taking over the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process as they grow older.

More than 343,000 Americans with disabilities got new jobs last year, a fourfold improvement in job gains compared to the previous year. ABC has ordered a 22-episode, full-season third season of family comedy Speechless. The news was confirmed Thursday night by series star Minnie Driver.

Micah Fowler of ABC's Speechless was honored on Sunday, March 11 by United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) at their fourth annual Art of Care Gala.  Fowler received their coveted Trailblazer Award that is given to individuals who use their influence to raise awareness about developmental disabilities.

On Sunday, March 11, United Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties (UCPLA) will host its fourth annual Art of Care gala, which will recognize Speechless star Micah Fowler with the organization's coveted Trailblazer Award. Given to individuals who use their influence to raise awareness about developmental disabilities, the Trailblazer Award has previously been presented to Zach Anner, a comedian and author who is a consultant for Speechless and has played a small role in an episode, musician Brandon Mendenhall, and Nike Innovator Tobie Hatfield and advocate Matthew Walzer.

Two critically acclaimed new Wednesday series, “Speechless” and “Designated Survivor,” have been given full-season pickups, Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment, announced today. Nine additional episodes of both series, from Twentieth Century Fox Television and ABC Studios, and The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios respectively, have been ordered.
