BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Wynn Handman, co-founder of the American Place Theatre, has died at age 97. Handman's daughter, Laura Handman, confirmed that his cause of death was COVID-19-related illness.

Jonathan Demar, Tony Award-winning producer of Hadestown and formerly of Broadway's A Christmas Carol, will make his Green Room 42 debut on November 10th at 7pm with an all new version of his solo show Setting the Standard. Bernard Slade, (born Bernard Slade Newbound), the Canadian/American writer best known for his Broadway play SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR  and the TV series THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY, has died.  He passed away peacefully at home early this morning (October 30) in Beverly Hills from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was 89.

Calling all horror enthusiasts! Sony Movie Channel will showcase rarely-shown horror films, mostly from the '70s, with double features played twice every night beginning at 8 p.m. EST on Friday, October 25 through Wednesday, October 30. A Halloween marathon will air Thursday, October 31 between 9 a.m. and 2 a.m.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Film Society's 2019 Screening Series will conclude with the classic The Purple Rose of Cairo(1985). It will be a tribute to its Emmy®-winning and Oscar®-nominated Production Designer Stuart Wurtzel, ADG, at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica on Sunday, August 4 at 5:30 pm. The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and the American Cinematheque are co-hosting the annual 2019 Screening Series “Production Design: Designers On Design” highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations. The monthly series will run from April through August at the Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood) with all screenings starting at 5:30 pm.  Moderating the screenings are Production Designers THOMAS A. Composer, conductor and pianist Andre Previn has died at the age of 89 on February 28. Previn was composer of the opera versions of Tennessee Williams's A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and Noel Coward's BRIEF ENCOUNTER, dozens of orchestral works, film scores, jazz works and the score for Tom Stoppard's 1977 play, EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FAVOUR. He was also music director of the Houston Symphony, LA Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra.

On this day, we're celebrating the birthday of one of Broadway's most notable living legends, the lovely Bernadette Peters.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Broadway debut of 'Love Letters', a Play by A.R. Gurney, Theatre at the Center (TATC) will showcase one exclusive performance on Sunday afternoon, February 3, at 2:30 p.m. This production, under the guidance of artistic advisor Linda Fortunato, will star Phil Potempa, a noted newspaper columnist for the Post Tribune and Crista Zivanovic, features editor of The Times of Northwest Indiana. The performance proceeds will benefit Theatre at the Center in Munster.

On this day, we salute the life and art of Theoni V. Aldredge, the costume designer of the original stage version of 'La Cage aux Folles' and 'Annie' on Broadway who passed away on this day in 2011.
