CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, the highly anticipated West End musical starring Olivier and Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge as Willy Wonka, has been postponed. The first two previews - scheduled for May 17 and 18, respectively - have been cancelled and performances will now begin May 22 instead of May 23. (more...)

According to the Daily Mail, Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will begin previews on May 17 instead of May 18 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Opening night is still set for June 25. Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will star Olivier and Tony Award-winning Douglas Hodge as Willy Wonka. Featuring ingenious stagecraft, the story is brought to life with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Grammy winners for Hairspray; Smash), with a book by award-winning playwright and adaptor David Greig (The Bacchae; Tintin In Tibet). BULL, THE HISTORY BOYS & More Set for Sheffield's Spring 2013 Season; Full Cast of MY FAIR LADY Announced!

Artistic Director Daniel Evans today unveils Sheffield Theatres' spring season for 2013, which includes two world premieres - Bull, a new play by Mike Bartlett, and This Is My Family, a new musical comedy by Tim Firth; major revivals of D.H. Lawrence's masterpiece The Daughter-in-Law and Alan Bennett's The History Boys, and Sheffield People's Theatre present their second production, 20 Tiny Plays about Sheffield. Full casting for My Fair Lady, the Crucible Christmas musical is also announced today. (more...)

She will play alongside Haley Flaherty and Steve Furst, who have recently joined the Company as Miss Honey and Mr Wormwood. The Left Out Festival Celebrates Fifth Year of LGBT Theatre at Stage Left Studio

Stage Left Studio's Left Out Festival will celebrate itss fifth year from April 14 to April 25, with fourteen performances selected by producers Cheryl King and Joe Hutcheson. The Festival includes three premieres, three popular favorites, and selected shorts from upcoming new works and current offerings at Stage Left Studio. West End's MATILDA to Open on Broadway Spring 2013?

The show transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that the show is now aiming to open on Broadway in the Spring of 2013, produced by the RSC themselves and overseen by Andre Ptaszynski, who formerly ran Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Really Useful Group.

Rialto Chatter: Royal Shakespeare Company to Bring MATILDA to Broadway?

Following a sensational sell-out season at The Courtyard Theatre, the RSC's production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim, and according to Whatsonstage, plans will soon be made concerning bringing the new musical to Broadway. RSC artistic director Michael Boyd announced at a press conference last week that the Mailda team will travel to New York at the end of January to discuss future Broadway plans. Additionally the RSC will 'retain "absolute control" over the production.' (more...)

Following a triumphant opening at the Cambridge Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical has extended its booking period. Tickets are now on sale up to, and including, 21 October 2012. The Royal Shakespeare Company's world premiere production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical will transfer to London's Cambridge Theatre, previewing from Tuesday 18 October. Bertie Carvel (Miss Trunchbull), Paul Kaye (Mr Wormwood) Josie Walker (Mrs Wormwood) and Lauren Ward (Miss Honey) will reprise their roles alongside Marc Antolin, Verity Bentham, Peter Howe, Michael Kent, Melanie La Barrie, Matthew Malthouse, Alastair Parker, Nick Searle and Emily Shaw who also appeared in the original production in Stratford.
