Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Seeks Submissions For 55th Annual National Playwrights Conference

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that is now accepting script submissions for the 2019 National Playwrights Conference. Writers may submit their new plays to the O'Neill's Open Submissions Process through Friday, October 12, 2018.

The National Playwrights Conference was established in 1964 as the founding program of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Led by NPC Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg, the conference supports playwrights during the creation and development of new plays. Writers of selected works will receive a July 2019 residency with a stipend, housing, meals, and transportation to support an intensive rehearsal process and two script-in-hand public readings with a professional cast and creative team.

City Theatre launches its new season with an all female cast and creative team for the Pittsburgh premiere of America's most produced playwright from 2017, Lauren Gunderson, and her hysterical and historical comedy, The Revolutionists. While set during France's Reign of Terror (1793-94), it is a timely treatise for the United States today as it celebrates four badass women out to change the world.

Geffen Playhouse today announced its selection of six local writers to participate in the launch of the inaugural cycle of The Writers' Room, a forum for engagement and collaboration between Los Angeles playwrights. The participants for 2018/2019 are Angelica Cheri, Dipika Guha, Chelsea Marcantel, Brian Otaño, Liza Powel O'Brien and Matt Schatz.

NNPN Welcomes Silk Road Rising, Company One, And City Theatre Company To The Core Membership

National New Play Network (NNPN), the country's alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, has added three new Core Members: Silk Road Rising (Chicago), Company One (Boston), and City Theatre Company (Pittsburgh). As of the date of this release, NNPN has 114 Members Theaters, comprised of 32 Cores and 82 Associates.

Seattle Rep Fully Funded For New Playwright Program

With excitement and gratitude, Seattle Repertory Theatre today announced that it was granted full funding from the prestigious Elizabeth George Foundation for support of commissions for the work of three writers - Joanna Garner, Lily Houghton, and C.A. Johnson. This grant funds developmental work that will begin this fall 2018 through Seattle Rep's The Other Season. The Foundation's incredible support enables artists at the very beginning stage of their careers to have their work recognized and cultivated by institutions across the nation like Seattle Rep in the hope that these theatres become the artistic homes for the work being created.

SPARK Individual Event Registration Now Open

Admission to individual SPARK events April 6-8 is now available online at pittsburghCLO.org/SPARK. For a small donation to Pittsburgh CLO's Audience Development and Education programs, members of the public are invited to peek behind the scenes of a musical in the making as 10 writing teams from across the country converge in Pittsburgh to showcase their work through a series of public presentations featuring local and national actors. Performances will take place at venues throughout the Cultural District.

PITTSBURGH CLO is pleased to welcome a collection of writing teams from across the country to Pittsburgh for the inaugural SPARK festival in March. These teams were chosen from a highly-selective submissions process and will have the opportunity to rehearse and revise their work in residencies ranging from two days to three weeks. SPARK will provide dramaturgy and production resources to 10 new musicals at all stages of development, in addition to the world premiere of UP AND AWAY. As a part of the development period, eight of the musicals will receive public presentations through which the writing teams can gather audience insights and focus their intentions for the next phase of development. A major initiative of Pittsburgh CLO's recently completed Next Generation Capital Campaign, SPARK is designed to cultivate new and innovative work from emerging and established musical theater artists.
