After a Covid hiatus, A is For’s annual “Broadway Acts for Women” is back with an online event and virtual auction performed LIVE from 54 Below. Broadway Acts for Women is a yearly celebrity karaoke extravaganza where ticket buyers bid on which song a performer sings live! There will also be amazing celebrity prize packages available for bidding.

While filming a virtual benefit for the York Theatre, Andre De Shields was surprised by two producers and a Senator.

Senator Brad Hoylman surprised the Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner André De Shields with a Senate Proclamation on Thursday April 8th, 2021 proclaiming the day “André De Shields Appreciation Day”. The surprise proclamation was arranged by producer Tom D’Angora to honor the extensive charity work Mr. De Shields has done for the community this year.

The York Theatre Company announced today an anonymous donor WILL match all donations this week up $50,000 as part of its “Rebuild The York” campaign which leads up to the Gala Benefit performance of THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!)…AND MORE!, which begins streaming on demand on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 7:00PM.

After fundraising efforts that saved Birdland and The West Bank Cafe, three superheroes of the industry turn their attention to The York Theatre Company.

 The York Theatre Company will present an All-Singing, All-Talking, All-Virtual special benefit presentation of the Off-Broadway hit _THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!).This event will raise funds to help The York recover and rebuild after devastating damage from a water main break on January 4, 2021.

An additional eight episodes comprising the second half of the season will debut later this year. GENERA+ION is a dark yet playful half-hour series following a diverse group of high school students whose exploration of modern sexuality (devices and all) tests deeply entrenched beliefs about life, love and the nature of family in their conservative community.

Notables from President Bill Clinton and Whoopi Goldberg to musicians Wynton Marsalis and Sting joined together on Sunday, Jan 24th to “Save Birdland”.  During the fundraising concert the Broadway community was treated to “All That Jazz” starring the original Velmas of Chicago, Chita Rivera and Bebe Neuwirth.

The fundraising campaign for Birdland Jazz Club will conclude on January 24th with a free streaming concert titled Save Birdland: A Celebration of Music, History and Community.

With Broadway dark, tourism down, indoor dining closed, and no relief plan in sight, 2020 has created a plethora of financial problems for the beloved theater district institution.
