Hayley Hoffmeister will portray Emma Bovary and Roger Rathburn (No, No, Nanette) is cast in the role of Charles Bovary. August Strindberg Rep Mounts EASTER With an All Black Cast, 3/8-31 by BWW News Desk - Feb 01, 2013
August Strindberg Repertory Theatre (www.strindberg.org), which was formed last year to illuminate Strindberg's plays for today's American audiences, will present Strindberg's 'Easter' (Pask, 1901) with an all-black cast, adapted and directed by Robert Greer, from March 8 to 31 at the Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street (East Village). The play has a similar complement of characters to Strindberg's 'Playing With Fire' (Leka med elden, 1893), with which the young company made an auspicious debut last Spring. Cast members from 'Playing With Fire' will be returning to play their corresponding roles in 'Easter.' (more...)

From tonight, October 26 to November 17, August Strindberg Repertory Theatre will present an innovative double-bill of Strindberg's plays, 'Casper's Fat Tuesday,' translated by Jonathan Howard, and 'The Stronger,' translated by Robert Greer. The evening is a 'sweet and sour' pairing of one undiscovered play and a novel adaptation of a more familiar one. Both translations are world premieres. The plays will be directed by Robert Greer, produced by the Strindberg Rep and the Pink Pig Ballet in association with Theater Resources Unlimited, and performed at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street (East Village). 2012 Henry Hewes Design Awards Honorees Announced by BWW News Desk - Oct 02, 2012
Ten theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the dual presentation of its 2011 and 2012 Awards in a luncheon ceremony scheduled for October 29. David Korins (Chinglish),Gregg Barnes (Follies), Brian MacDevitt (Death of a Salesman) and Daniel Kluger (Tribes) will be honored with 2012 Henry Hewes Design Awards. The 2011 Henry Hewes Awards were announced earlier this year. For the 2012 honors, 86 theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 57 productions presented during the 2011-2012 New York theater season. (more...)

The Latino spirit is alive in New Harlem Arts Theatre's upcoming production of 'Sweet Charity,' directed by Julio Agustin, to be presented July 26 to August 19 at CCNY's Aaron Davis Hall, 135th Street and Convent Ave. The characters of the classic sixties musical will be re-envisioned to reflect the changing roles of Latinos in our society while the traditional music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon will be preserved. The 1966 Broadway tuner was originally conceived, staged and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Director Julio Agustin has tapped choreographer Lainie Munro for the job of nestling his radical new concept into Fosse's formative jazz dances. (more...)
