Kennedy Center Presents COME FLY AWAY, 4/18-29

The Kennedy Center presents Come Fly Away in the Eisenhower Theater from April 1829, 2012. Conceived, choreographed, and directed by Tony Award® winner and Kennedy Center Honoree Twyla Tharp (Movin Out) and by special arrangement with the Frank Sinatra Family and Frank Sinatra Enterprises, Come Fly Away blends the legendary vocals of Frank Sinatra with a live on-stage big band and 14 of the worlds finest dancers. The shows score combines classic and newly discovered vocal performances from the Sinatra archives, along with Sinatras signature arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones, among others, and brand new charts, for this fresh innovative musical. BWW TV: COME FLY AWAY Soars into the Pantages - Inside Opening Night!

The new Broadway musical and U.S. National Tour of COME FLY AWAY, conceived, choreographed, and directed by Tony Award-winner Twyla Tharp and featuring vocals by Frank Sinatra, made its Los Angeles debut at the Pantages Theatre Tuesday, October 25 for a strictly-limited 2 week engagement thru November 6, 2011. Michael Sterling, co-producer and Los Angeles correspondent for Broadway World TV, along with Associate Producer Jerry Evans of the JLE Media Group, Inc. covered the evening's festivities. The star-studded guest list included many of the late Sinatra's celebrity friends and family members. After attending the performance, Sterling said "In short, the show is an intoxicating marriage of pure harmony and wedded bliss." ( more...)

The producers of the revival of WEST SIDE STORY announced today that Broadway newcomer Sarah Amengual will be Broadway's "Maria" beginning Tuesday, September 21, 2010. 2009 Tony Award nominee Josefina Scaglione will play her final performance as "Maria" on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Ms. Amengual follows in this production's tradition of brining fresh new talent to the role of "Maria."

WEST SIDE STORY Wins GRAMMY for Best Show Album

The new Broadway cast album of 'West Side Story' has picked up the 2010 Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. The announcement was made during the Grammy Awards' pre-telecast ceremony held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday, January 31. The creative team behind the 'West Side Story' new Broadway cast album is Leonard Bernstein, composer; Stephen Sondheim, lyricist. After having understudied the role since performances began on Broadway on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Broadway's Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway), Mr. Hydzik will star as "Tony" opposite Tony Award nominee Josefina Scaglione. Jeremy Jordan (Rock of Ages) will play the role of "Tony" on Wednesday evenings and Sunday matinees. ( more...)

BAA will continue their one-day master class series December 19th and 20th with master classes in the themes of 'West Side Story' and 'In the Heights'. 'West Side Story' master class students will learn original choreography from dance captain Marina Lazzaretto, and will partake in a Song Interpretation class with the hit revivals original Tony, Matt Canvenaugh. Broadway favorite Christopher Sieber (Shrek, Spamalot) spent Saturday, December 12 mentoring the young talent of Broadway's future as they led the morning portion of a Shrek master class with Broadway Artists Alliance. Sieber (Lord Farquaad) answered questions and candidly spoke about his experiences with Shrek as well as other stage and screen credits to a group of eager and talented young performers ages 10 to 21. The group's morning Q & A was followed with a Song Interpretation class led by Sieber. The master class concluded with a Musical Theatre Audition Technique session by a representative from Tara Rubin casting. ( more...)

The smash hit revival of WEST SIDE STORY announced today that Matthew Hydzik will officially take over the role of "Tony," beginning Tuesday, December 15.
