Vy Higginsen's Gospel for Teens will present two special end-of-semester concerts for this acclaimed musical education program, offering instruction in forms of Gospel, Jazz and R&B music to local young people between the ages of 13 and 19 at no cost, providing desperately needed support to musically gifted children and replacing arts programs taken out of many inner city schools. Food Network Announces 'Cinco De Mayo' Week, Full May Highlights by - Apr 26, 2013
-Food Network launches into May with the season finale of Chopped All-Stars on Sunday, May 5th at 9pm followed by the first-ever Iron Chef America: Tournament of Championsas Iron Chef battles Iron Chef in a five-episode stunt premiering Sunday May 5th at 10pm. Daytime programming also heats up with the season three premiere of Trisha's Southern Kitchen on Saturday, May 25th at 10:30am and the season two premiere of Home For Dinner with Jamie Deen on Sunday, May 26th at 10am. Food Network gets spirited with a Cinco De Mayo themed weekend on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th, followed by a Mother's Day weekend on Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th. Closing out May on a high note, Food Network serves up Grilling Week from Sunday, May 26th to Saturday, June 1st with premiere episodes of fan-favorite series that bring the heat and kick off the summer grilling season. New York Sculptor Leah Poller Honors Legendary Saxophonist Fred Ho in Bronze by BWW News Desk - Apr 08, 2013
Harlem sculptor Leah Poller first heard Fred Ho in his performance of the Cal Massey magnus opus symphony "The Black Liberation Movement Suite", presented in its entirety for the first time in jazz history at the 2012 inauguration of Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster Supper Club 'Ginny's'. "The music was soul-rendering, and the performance by baritone saxophonist Fred Ho was mesmerizing", declares Poller. "The sheer bravado, the invention and the scope of this performance shook me to the roots, and I knew I had to meet Ho as a fellow artist seeking to break barriers of preconception of what something should be. Ho pushed the envelope, something I could relate to in my own work." (more...)
