Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos Conducts New York Philharmonic in Carmina Burana, Atlantida, 5/31-6/2

Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct music from two secular cantatas: selections from Falla’s Atlantida, and Orff’s complete Carmina burana — which the Orchestra has not performed since 1995 — Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, at 8:00 p.m. The international cast that Mr. Fru?hbeck has assembled for these performances features American soprano Erin Morley, American tenor Nicholas Phan (in his Philharmonic debut), South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo (debut), the Spanish chorus Orpheo?n Pamplone?s, Igor Ijurra Ferna?ndez, director (debut), and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Dianne Berkun, director. Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble, Inc. (MCCE) presents the third concert in its 2011-12 residency at The Staten Island Museum on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8pm. The evening features works by MCCEÂ’s 2011-12 composer-in-residence Andrew Rosciszewski, MCCEÂ’s Composer Search Finalist 2012 Elizabeth Nonemaker, Claude Debussy, Manuel De Falla, Alan Hovhaness, Henryk Gorecki and Francis Poulenc performed in a cabaret-style setting by MCCE members Tamara Keshecki (flute), Amanda Romano (harp), Elizabeth McCullough (soprano) and Wen-Yi Lo (piano). The performance will be livestreamed from www.mcensemble.org via Justin.TV and MCCE will field questions during via Twitter and Facebook. (more...)

Orchestra Nova brings the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation’s 2011/2012 Professional Performance Season to a close with A Taste of Spain on Friday, March 23. The evening will begin in the lobby where concert-goers will be immersed in an emotional, intellectual and theatrical "Nova Experience" bringing the essence of Spain -- dance, cuisine, culture, music and more to the Center. Music from Bizet, Tchaikovsky, de Falla, and Albeniz, among others, will be performed by Orchestra Nova's 35 talented musicians. An array of special guest artists including: Victoria Mature, soprano; Gregorio Gonzalez, baritone; Olé Flamenco (Marysol Fuentes, flamenco singer; Erika Lopez, flamenco dance and Juan Moro, flamenco guitar) and Fred Benedetti, classical guitar will further bring Spain to life. The Dallas Opera presents the third main stage production of the 2011-2012 “Tragic Obsessions” Season: Giuseppe Verdi’s tender and bittersweet romance, LA TRAVIATA, opening Friday, April 13, 2012 at 7:30 PM in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Downtown Dallas.
