MTC to Tribute Artistic Director Lynne Meadow, 6/18

Manhattan Theatre Club will celebrate Artistic Director Lynne Meadows 40th anniversary as the visionary and artistic leader of the organization with a special tribute on Monday, June 18. The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman (261 West 47th Street). Immediately after the Friedman tribute event, a party will follow at Copacabana (268 West 47th Street). ( more...)

Ashley Bryant, Jo Bonney, et al. Part of Team Behind EMOTIONAL CREATURE, 6/14 - 7/15

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the cast and creative team for its world premiere of Eve Enslers EMOTIONAL CREATURE. This positive and propulsive new show from the Tony Award-winning playwright, performer, and activist who created The Vagina Monologues features a choreographer, a composer, four top designers, and an ensemble of talented young women. Directed by Obie Award-winner Jo Bonney, Emotional Creature plays only 36 performances in the Roda Theatre. The limited engagement at Berkeley Rep begins previews on June 14, opens June 22, and runs through July 15. The lead producers of this premiere are Wayne Jordan and Quinn Delaney, Marjorie Randolph, and Jack and Betty Schafer; the executive producer is the Strauch Kulhanjian Family. The Goodman Theatre and Derrick Sanders, in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), the League of Chicago Theatres, American Theater Company, Court Theatre, Victory Gardens Theatre and Atlantas True Colors Theatre Company have announced that Chicagos own Christian Helem (Chicago High School for the Arts American Theater Company), placed second in the national August Wilson Monologue Competition held this past Monday, May 7, 2012, at Broadways August Wilson Theatre. Jujamcyn Theaters (Jordan Roth, President) and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) held the 4th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition this past Monday, May 7, at at the August Wilson Theatre, where high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performed monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. Jujamcyn Theaters (Jordan Roth, President) and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced the 4th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition on Monday, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, features high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. Women's Project Presents World Premiere of WE PLAY FOR THE GODS, 6/1-6/23

Women's Project will end its 34th season with an off-Broadway show of epic proportions when seven playwrights, four directors, three producers and five actors collaborate on one world premiere play titled from the famous Ellen Stewart quote We Play for The Gods. We Play for The Gods stars Annie Golden, Amber Gray, Alexandra Henrikson, Irene Sofia Lucio and Erika Rolfsud. It begins performances Friday, June 1, at 8:00pm, opens Monday, June 11, at 7:30pm for a run through Saturday, June 23, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street. ( more...)

I was intrigued as soon as I heard that Director Eve Muson was bringing the show to a professional company. My sense was that Muson felt she could build a better product on the same platform of stars, costume and set. She was right. The end product is a modern historical tragedy that obviously speaks directly to contemporary racial and gender issues but also past them to the human condition, as all great tragedy does. ( more...)

RUINED is directed by Barry Feinstein, who directed the highly acclaimed Seafarer last season, as well as FPCTs 2010 season opener, Fool for Love. In addition, he also directed The Miser, The Homecoming and Tracy Letts Bug for our 2009-2010 Season. Barry is a certified Speech Pathologist, who also teaches our very popular acting workshops and works with FPCTs Ann Street Players, (formerly known as The Challenged Ensemble). ( more...)
