Westport Country Playhouse's next Script in Hand playreading will be the award-winning play 'Intimate Apparel' by Lynn Nottage, set for one-night-only tonight, February 11, 7 p.m. All tickets are $15. 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition Will Take Place 5/6 by BWW News Desk - Jan 29, 2013
Jujamcyn Theaters (Jordan Roth, President) and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition will take place on Monday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, features high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. BWW Reviews: Drying Like A RAISIN IN THE SUN at Rochester's Geva Theatre by Kelundra Smith - Feb 27, 2012
Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN is one of those canonic, American plays that is a regional theater favorite and is almost undisputedly good. This means Hansberry's writing is rarely questioned, and the viability of the show being well-received by audiences also goes without skepticism. However, in Geva Theatre's production, director Robert O'Hara's artistic license with Hansberry's script is close but no cigar. (more...)
