Last night, May 24, Roundabout Theatre Company opened Simon Gray’s The Common Pursuit, directed by Moisés Kaufman at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre / Laura Pels Theatre. The Common Pursuit features Kristen Bush as “Marigold,” Kieran Campion as “Peter,” Josh Cooke as “Stuart,” Jacob Fishel as “Martin,” Tim McGeever as “Humphry,” Lucas Near-Verbrugghe as “Nick.” The production will play a limited engagement through July 29, 2012. Westport Country Playhouse to Present THE BREAD WINNER Reading, 6/25

“The Bread Winner” by W. Somerset Maugham, the author of “The Circle” and “The Constant Wife,” will be presented as a Script in Hand playreading at Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, June 25, 7 p.m. The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse artistic advisor, who is also curator of the Script in Hand series. Jacqui Grilli to Star in Pre-NY Tryout of ROLLER DISCO THE MUSICAL, 6/13, Boston

Oberon in association with the Ministry of Theater will present a pre-New York tryout of ROLLER DISCO THE MUSICAL!, an unautherized parody of the classic film Roller Boogie, from May 30 to August 30 at Oberon in Cambridge Massachusetts, with its world premiere opening night on June 13. With executive producer Pablo Rojas, Roller Disco aims to transfer to Off-Broadway in Spring 2013. (more...)

MCC Theater to Present Benefit Performances of THE HEART OF THE MATTER, 6/13-16; Krysten Ritter Headlines

MCC Theater today announced they will present Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute’s ‘shorts’ series, The Heart of the Matter, for four special benefit performances that will take place June 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). The staged reading will feature actor Krysten Ritter (ABC’s “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23,” AMC’s “Breaking Bad”), with additional cast members to be announced shortly. Carolyn Cantor, who recently directed Regrets at Manhattan Theatre Club and MCC’s production of LaBute’s In a Dark Dark House, will direct. Proceeds will support MCC Theater’s Playwrights’ Coalition program, free PlayLab reading series and literary development activities. (more...)

The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman (261 West 47th Street). New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo and Noor Theatre Artistic Director Lameece Isaaq, Executive Director Maha Chehlaoui, and Producing Director Nancy Vitale have announced that the world premiere of Food and Fadwa, written by Lameece Issaq and Jacob Kader, and directed by Shana Gold, begins performances tonight, Friday, May 18, 2012, at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. The opening night is scheduled for Thursday, June 7. Food and Fadwa is a co-production with Noor Theatre, a company-in-residence at New York Theatre Workshop. (more...)
