In 1992, Crazy for You opened on Broadway and won the 1992 Tony Award for Best New Musical and ran for over 1600 performances before closing in 1996. Originally billed as 'a new Musical Comedy' by George and Ira Gershwin, the production is heavily based on Girl Crazy, a show written by the songwriting team back in 1930. Crazy for You will open at the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining tonight, March 20. (more...)

RING OF FIRE Johnny Cash Musical Show to Open at Alhambra, 12/28

The Alhambra Theatre & Dining will be rocking southern style when it opens it 2013 campaign with the renowned Johnny Cash tribute show, 'Ring of Fire, the Johnny Cash Musical Show.' The show features eight actors and a four-piece live band, bringing theatrical life to Cash's classic story songs. A true tribute to the man and his music, the show does not actually feature an actor playing Cash, who died in 2003, but it does chronicle his most-interesting life - from his debut at the Grand Ole Opry to Folsom County Prison and back to stardom. The show opened in 2006 at Broadway's Barrymore Theatre. (more...)

Winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1988 and the Oscar for Best Picture in 1989, "Driving Miss Daisy" is opening at the Alhambra Theatre on February 5. Appropriate for a play of such esteem, the Alhambra has brought in not one, as has been its custom of late, but two stars to carry the show: four-time Emmy Award Winner, Michael Learned will star as Daisy Werthan and Lance Nichols, star of the HBO series TREME, as her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. This will be the fourth time Learned and Nichols will star together in "Driving Miss Daisy." Rounding out the three-person cast is Michael Edward Hodge, a New York actor who plays Daisy's son, Boolie Werthan. (more...)

The multi-award-winning NoHo Arts Center Ensemble (NoHoAce) presents a world premiere play, ONE NOVEMBER YANKEE, written and directed by Joshua Ravetch and starring four-time Golden Globe nominee Harry Hamlin and two-time Emmy winner Loretta Swit. ONE NOVEMBER YANKEE will preview on Tuesday, November 13 at 8pm; Wednesday, November 14 at 8pm; Thursday, November 15 at 8pm and will open on Friday, November 16 at 8pm and will run for eight weeks through Today, January 5, 2013 at the NoHo Arts Center, 11136 Magnolia Blvd. (at Lankershim) in North Hollywood. The choices I have made are based solely on the plays and performances that I actually saw. I cannot see all the great talent that is out there in LA; it is physically impossible, as there exist far too many theatre/cabaret performances for one person to cover. So if a choice of yours is not on my list, chances are, I did not see that play or performance...or, it just did not make the final cut. I also do not separate Equity from Equity waiver; I consider all the productions/performances I select to be of top-of-the-line quality/professionalism. (more...)

ONE NOVEMBER YANKEE Extends Through 1/12 at NoHo Art Center

The multi-award-winning NoHo Arts Center Ensemble (NoHoAce) announces that the world premiere play, ONE NOVEMBER YANKEE, written and directed by Joshua Ravetch and starring two-time Emmy winner Loretta Swit and four-time Golden Globe nominee Harry Hamlin will be adapted into a feature film, written by Joshua Ravetch for Pam Williams Productions. The play, which is now extended thru Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the NoHo Arts Center, stars veteran actors Lorreta Swit and Harry Hamlin as siblings who discover the wreckage of a single engine plane crash years after the accident has occurred.
