English National Ballet will premiere a new production of Le Corsaire (The Pirate), one of the great 19th Century classics, in October 2013. English National Ballet will be the first UK company to perform the complete work which will open in Milton Keynes. The production will tour Southampton, Oxford, Bristol, London and Manchester. BWW Reviews: American Symphony Blows a Kiss to DER VAMPYR at Carnegie Hall by Richard Sasanow - Mar 19, 2013
I've always been a sucker for a good vampire story--and Heinrich Marscher's opera DER VAMPYR fits the bill. And while I don't expect it to turn up at the Metropolitan Opera (or even New York City Opera, for that matter), this 1827 singspiel sung in German with dialogue in English, performed by the American Symphony Orchestra under Leon Botstein, provided an exhilarating introduction to the work. Columbia University School of the Arts has announced the 2012-2013 Columbia Stages season of actors', directors' and playwrights' thesis productions at the Riverside Theatre, 3LD, the Connelly Theatre, and The Pershing Square Signature Center. Columbia Stages has expanded its season to a variety of venues throughout the City in order to provide third-year students with high-quality presentation spaces that meet the needs of their individual vision. The first production of the season will be Antigone/Progeny directed by Greg Taubman '13. (more...)
