Last night, stars of the stage and screen dazzled a full house at the Theatre at ACE Hotel during the first ever The 24 Hour Musicals: Los Angeles. The event raised money for the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund, a nonprofit arm of the Dramatists Guild of America, which advocates for the freedom of expression on behalf of all who are confronting censorship on stages across America. On December 19, one month to the day after Trump's Broadway-fueled Twitter deluge, Liz Meriwether and Shira Milikowsky put on A SAFE AND SPECIAL PLACE, an evening of works written and performed by some of the theater's best and most promising talents. The event, held within the atmospheric walls of the McKittrick Hotel and which benefited The Trevor Project and Kids in Need of Defense was, as you could guess, anything but what Trump would deem "safe and special."

On July 2, playwright, author and screenwriter Liz Meriwether will join The Writers' Room with Reza Aslan, a refreshing take on the typically staid literary event that includes a live house band, cocktails, and audience interaction. Staged the first Wednesday of every month, The Writer's Room is an intimate yet fast-paced conversation with some of today's most compelling poets, novelists, non-fiction writers and screenwriters.
Ars Nova is now accepting applications for Play Group, a vibrant and eclectic group of emerging writers who gather twice a month at Ars Nova to share new work and get peer feedback. The group offers members the chance to develop their plays with peer support; to be inspired by each other's work; to form collaborative relationships; and to build a strong sense of community within Ars Nova. All emerging playwrights are eligible for membership. If selected, new members will be invited to join for a period of two years beginning in January of 2015.
Ars Nova kicks off 2014 with Game Play, this year's incarnation of Ars Nova's annual Play Group production. An evening of original short plays and live music inspired by classic board game titles, Game Play features Peter Benson, Marcia DeBonis, Dashiell Eaves, Brandon Gill, Ben Graney, Susan Heyward, Jessica Love and Carmen Zilles. This production plays 10 performances, today, January 29 - February 8.
