Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) is delighted to announce its 2018-2019 ReDiscovery Reading Series will open on Monday, October 22 at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW) at 7:30 p.m. with Peerless, written by Jiehae Park.

This week, Molly Smith and the cast of Anything Goes at Arena Stage chose to honor and support Indigenous Peoples' Day (Oct 8). Just as those at sea use Morse code to send SOS alerts, the cast of Anything Goes -- joined by Molly's partner, Suzanne Blue Star Boy -- taps out a call to action in the video below to bring awareness to the epidemic of murdered, kidnapped, and missing Native women in the United States and Canada:

16th Street Theater announces the cast of the world premiere of playwright-in-residence J. Tori Amos' 'Raspberry Swirl' pumps throughout the theater as I enter it, and I cannot help but feel as though I have been transported into some sort of concert. I almost instantly settle into the energy as I recognize several artists I like in the preshow music. A theme arises: These artists are all women. These artists are all women whose careers and specifically selected songs are about female empowerment. I take this knowledge in, and enjoy the music. I think I know what kind of show I'm about to see.

Playwright Ger Thijs' work, DE KUS has been splendidly translated by Paul Evans in Upstream Theater's production of THE KISS. There is a certain magic in these woods where a chance encounter takes place. It's that old adage about the importance of first impressions, but taken to show that second and third and fourth, etc impressions can be more even more revealing, and honest. That's the sense of wonder we experience watching this unique play, set in a woodland, path strewn Dutch forest, where a man and woman meet repeatedly, and find new "hidden truths" that allow each of them to delve a bit closer into the life of the other. It's a truly special show that captures the imagination in unexpected fashion, somehow transforming a black box theatre into a beautiful landscape where personalities begin to emerge as an unlikely couple come together, to ponder, console, and pass the time. This is just a terrific show that completely demands your attendance.
