LYSISTRATA JONES Film Adaptation in the Works; Andy Fickman to Direct by Movies News Desk - Jun 14, 2013
Andy Fickman has agreed to develop and direct an adaptation of Douglas Carter Beane's and Lewis Flinn's Off Broadway and Broadway musical Lysistrata Jones. Based on the Aristophenes comedy, had its acclaimed Off Broadway run in 2011 and graduated to Broadway in 2012. Along the way, the show garnered raves from the New York Times, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. (more...)

Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking! ends its run today, April 28, at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street). The smash musical, which received unanimous raves from critics and audiences alike, broke all box-office records at the 47th Street Theatre and won spots on the Top Ten Lists of Time Magazine and the Associated Press, begins its hiatus in order to make room for The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's own season, as required by the show's lease agreement with the theatre. Gerard Alessandrini's, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE AND KICKING, which received unanimous raves from critics and audiences alike, broke all box-office records at the 47th Street Theatre, and won spots on the Top Ten Lists of Time Magazine and the Associated Press, will wind up its current edition at the 47th Street Theatre on Sunday, April 28, in order to make room for The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's own season, as required by the show's lease agreement with the theatre. In a statement, Mr. Alessandrini said, "We knew from the start that the theatre could only be ours until the end of April. Although we hate to leave town when we're a hit, I actually think this is a perfect time for us to wind up "Alive and Kicking", which has been a thrilling return to New York for us, to take a brief break; and to begin plans to return with another edition later this year." The show, which has recently added extended parodies of Cinderella and the movie version of Les Miz, is also a Critic's Pick for The New York Times, The Daily News and New York Magazine. The cast of Gerard Alessandrini's FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE AND KICKING! will be performing parodies of Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe in the film Les Miserables on Good Day New York on Wednesday, February 27,2013 in the 9'oclock hour. The hit musical at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street - just west of Eighth Avenue) continues through April 28th and is co-directed by Phillip George. Time Magazine and the Associated Press recently awarded FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: ALIVE AND KICKING! spots on their Top Ten Lists, with Time Magazine making it their Top Musical pick for 2012. Beginning this Saturday, January 19th, Stephen Hanna will return to the role of Dream Hannibal in Off-Broadway's sellout sensation SILENCE! The Musical at the new Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square. Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run December 30th, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records for the show so far. As a result, the producers determined that performances of the smash hit show will resume on January 19th. Originally announced as a strictly limited engagement through August 13, 2011, SILENCE! was extended numerous times by popular demand and transferred theatres twice, ultimately landing at the new Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square, which was constructed especially for the show. SILENCE! opened at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011 to unanimous rave reviews and spawned a highly successful L.A. production starring Davis Gaines and Christine Lakin. (more...)
