SUNDAYS IN SUMMER CABARET Returns for 4th Season Today

The acclaimed Todays In Summer Cabaret Series at the Arthur Newman Theater in Palm Desert will be back for it's fourth season beginning today, May 5th. 'Since it began, more than 90 different performers have brought praises from our audiences which have grown tremendously over the years', says Les Michaels of Life Is A Cabaret, who produces the shows. The theater, which is located at The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert, seats up to 180 people and is a perfect setting for these intimate cabaret style performances that you would normally see in a smaller New York style supper club. Gia Mora Brings I WON'T DANCE to Palm Desert, 5/19

Performing standards from the Great American Songbook, the Broadway Stage, and Hollywood musicals, Gia Mora in "I Won't Dance" will be presented Sunday, May 19, 2013 as part of the Sundays In Summer Series presented by Les Michaels at the Arthur Newman Theatre in The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. The Colorado native, who now resides in Los Angeles, is a familiar face on TV in series and commercials as well as the big screen in films, but her passion is singing with her four-octave range. In this show Gia takes us on a journey through several decades with a mix going from romantic to comedic. (more...)

Les Michaels and Joel Baker Begin New Open Mic Wednesdays at Rock Garden in Palm Desert

The latest venue for Cabaret Open Mic is Rock Garden Bar and Eatery in Palm Springs, which recently underwent a major remodeling and features a new menu at economy-friendly prices. Shows start every Wednesday at 7:30 PM and go until closing at 10 PM. Singers who wish to perform should arrive at 7 PM to sign up and usually sing two songs each. (more...)

The Arthur Newman Theater at The Joslyn Center is the site for A Trio Of Duos made up of three of the Desert's hardest working performers. First up there is Julius and Sylvia, the dynamic duo that currently appears at Truillusa on weekends and throughout the Valley, but for this show they will team up with pianist and singer Joel Baker. Joel currently has several weekly gigs at such spots as Studio One11, The Rainbow, and Streetbar. He is also one half of the popular Cabaret Open Mic's with Les Michaels as the host and who also presents the Sundays In Summer Cabaret Series from which A Trio Of Duos is part of. (more...)

The Carol Channing - Harry Kullijian Foundation for The Arts, whose objective is to promote arts education through public awareness, community involvement and increased support of public schools, is sponsoring 'Voice Of the Valley' - a seven-week cabaret open mic competition. It begins on July 17th and will culminate September 4th with a final sing-off when the winning singer is cast in 'A Magical Night On Broadway' at THE SHOW on September 8th with a list of Broadway's 'Who's Who' and hosted by JoAnne Worley. Composer Michele Brourman Comes to Palm Desert's Newman Theater Today, 8/26

The Sundays In Summer Cabaret Concert Series at the Arthur Newman Theater continues today, August 26th with singer/songwriter and winner of the Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award, Michele Brourman. Ms. Brourman has written numerous contemporary standards that have been recorded by Michael Feinstein, Olivia Newton-John, Cleo Laine, Margaret Whiting, Rita Coolidge, Donny Osmond, and Sheena Easton. For the cabaret-set, her songs have been recorded by and performed by some of the best in that genre including Heather MaCrae, Karen Mason, Sharon McKnight, Sally Mayes, Billy Stritch, and her frequent collaborator Amanda McBroom. Doug Graham Brings PERFECTLY IMPERFECT to Palm Desert's Newman Theater Today, 8/19

For this new one-man show, 'Perfectly Imperfect', Doug has compiled a roster of song selections from Broadway, The Great American Songbook, and Popular music that he feels describe himself, but most likely the audience will see a little of themselves in more than a few. The show begins at 2 PM today, August 19th at the Arthur Newman Theater located in the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. Local musical director Joel Baker will accompany Doug on piano for the show.
