The Philippines Joins Eve Ensler's ONE BILLION RISING Today

Community groups Gabriela Women's Party and Gabriela, which fight for Filipino women's rights, and theater organization New Voice Company, which is best known for its repeated 'stagings' of Tony winner Eve Ensler's 'The Vagina Monologues' in the Philippines, will join women and men in 200 countries to celebrate Ensler's 15-year effort to end violence against women and girls via ONE BILLION RISING, where participants 'strike, dance, and rise' along Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City on Valentine's Day, today, February 14. Nonie Buencamino ("Stageshow") and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo ("God of Carnage"), who first worked together in New Voice Company's production of "Into the Woods" five years ago, are paired up as the new King Mongkut of Siam and Anna Leonowens respectively in Resorts World Manila's extended run of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I," announced at a recent press conference held at Newport Performing Arts Theater. RAMA HARI, The Epic Tale Returns Today

The legendary Indian epic tale of "Ramayana" comes to life once again with Ballet Philippines' (BP) restaging of the hit pop ballet musical "Rama Hari," which runs tomorrow, November 30 until Today, December 9 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theatre. The Manila Symphony Orchestra provides the live music during the performances. (more...)

International television stars Christian Bautista and Karylle Tatlonghari, who recently appeared in THE KITCHEN MUSICAL, a Singaporean musical drama television series, and who first shared the musical theater stage via a local production of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's WEST SIDE STORY several years ago, will lend their star power to Ballet Philippines' revival of ballet musical RAMA HARI from Friday, November 30 to Sunday, December 9 at the CCP Main Theater.
