Australia's most successful homegrown musical , Priscilla Queen of the Desert , is previewing to packed houses at Melbourne's Regent Theatre ahead of its official " pink carpet " gala opening this Tuesday 30 January . th The gala marks the 175 opening night for the iconic hit show , which has travelled to 135 cities in 29 countries around the world since it premiered in Australia a decade ago .

For this milestone anniversary, SBTS has selected two of Shakespeare's most popular and beloved plays, Macbeth and The Taming of the Shrew.
CASA 0101 Theater and Angel City Theatre Ensemble to Present MARIELA IN THE DESERT

CASA 0101 Theater, Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director and the newly formed production company, Angel City Theater Ensemble (ACTE), Vance Valencia, Founder, will present the Los Angeles Premiere of the critically acclaimed play, MARIELA IN THE DESERT, written by Karen Zacarias, directed by Robert Beltran (Star Trek: Voyager; Zoot Suit; Eating Raoul). The production will be presented for a five-week run on the theater's Main Stage located at 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., November 4 - December 11, 2016. There will be no performances on Thanksgiving Weekend, November 25th, 26th and 27th.

Today, Friday 29 January, Mary Rachel Brown was awarded the second annual Lysicrates Prize for new Australian Playwriting, receiving a full $12,500 Griffin Theatre Company commission, as voted by the audience, at Verbrugghen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

An Officer and a Gentleman, directed by Simon Philips and co-written by Douglas Day Stewart and composer and lyricist team Ken Hirsch and Robin Lerner, made its world premiere performance on May 18 at the Lyric Theater in Sydney, Australia.
Despite the hype of the much anticipated musical, which is believed to have Broadway aspirations, the production was received with little enthusiasm by many critics (revisit the Review Roundup here). Now, the movie and show's scribe, Douglas Day Stewart, has taken to the media to defend the piece in an open letter in The Australian against their negative reaction.

The Sydney Fringe today announced the nominees of their 2010 Fringe Awards. A jury selected from industry professionals joined 100,000 other attendees in seeing the 260+ events that made up the Sydney Fringe, and the nominees have been selected from the finest works they saw at this year's event. The winners of these awards, as well as the Sydney Festival Award for Outstanding Independent Artist, will be announced October 27.
