Manhattan Theatre Club will celebrate Artistic Director Lynne Meadows 40th anniversary as the visionary and artistic leader of the organization with a special tribute on Monday, June 18. The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman (261 West 47th Street). Immediately after the Friedman tribute event, a party will follow at Copacabana (268 West 47th Street). ( more...)

The 2012 Drama Critics Circle aAards were presented at a cocktail reception last night, May 14, at Angus McIndoe Restaurant. Sons of the Prophet, written by Stephen Karam, won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2011-2012 season. The award for Best Foreign Play went to Tribes, written by Nina Raine. Once received the award for Best Musical.

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) kicks off the 10th anniversary of its Uptown Series with the world premiere of The Bad Guys, written by Alena Smith and directed by Hal Brooks. The Bad Guys will feature Michael Braun (War Horse), Roe Hartrampf (Unnatural Acts), James McMenamin (Suicide, Incorporated), Tobias Segal (The Miracle Worker) and Raviv Ullman (Russian Transport). History Theatre has announced its 35th season, which will kick-off with the Minnesota premiere of the Broadway hit Lombardi by Eric Simonson. The show will feature Jim Detmar as Vince Lombardi and Norah Long as Marie Lombardi, and promises to be a funny and passionate look at an American icon. History Theatre will celebrate the holiday season with the return of Christmas of Swing featuring the talents of Ruthie Baker, Patty Nieman, and Stacy Lindell as Patty, LaVerne, and Maxine The Andrews Sisters. Originally scheduled to close April 29, performances have been added for Thursday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. The critically-acclaimed production reunites Remy Bumppo Artistic Associates Shawn Douglass as director and Greg Matthew Anderson from Remy Bumppo's acclaimed 2010 production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Lee Blessing gives us a three-dimensional look at baseball legend Ty Cobb in his fiercely honest one-act Cobb now onstage at Group rep in NoHo. Superbly staged by Gregg T. Daniel and gloriously acted by an ensemble of four, Cobb is represented at the beginning, middle and end of his life by three actors who play simultaneously around and against each other, as the man, like all men, attempts to sum up his life and make sense of his accomplishments. Group rep Salutes If We Are Women

Needless to say, Joanna McClelland Glass' If We Are Women is a stodgy, heady piece of theatre in which very little if anything happens dramatically. It is the type of play that is better to read than watch. Every kind of woman is represented: the prairie woman, with little or no education, the intellectual and the wanna-be intellectual. There are three generations: two grandmothers, a divorced mother and her teenage daughter, all of whom, as different as they are, have in common a batch of insecurities... and they all want what is better for their lives and the lives of those they love. Now onstage at Group rep, Sherry Netherland has directed four actresses, all of whom give excellent performances, but, in spite of the fine work, something is missing.
