Lyric Opera of Chicago today announced the company’s 2022/23 Season, featuring productions of classic operas, a continuing long-term focus on developing and presenting new work, plus the return of Lyric’s annual spring musical.

The 92nd Street Y will present The Knights playing Schubert, Vaughan Williams, and more on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 8pm ET as part of its fall classical music season, its first fully in-person season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Renowned international music conservatory Manhattan School of Music (MSM) welcomed Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, “one of the brightest talents on the American opera scene” (San Francisco Classical Voice), and Grammy-nominated pianist Myra Huang, “among the top accompanists of her generation” (Opera News), to its faculty this fall. 

The 92nd Street Y, one of New York's leading cultural venues, presents Randall Goosby, violin, and Zhu Wang, piano, playing Mozart, Franck, and Price on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 7:30pm ET as part of its fall classical music season, its first fully in-person season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Directions, a series of three digital collaborations from artists new to opera created by Music Theatre Wales, will stream on the Opera Philadelphia Channel beginning Wednesday, Dec. 1 through May 31, 2022.

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertoire with outstanding promise for a significant career. Earlier this year, Washington National Opera (WNO) named tenor Frederick Ballentine as the 2021 recipient and will present him in concert on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.

Justice Ginsburg’s family honored her love for WNO with a gift to the company of her piano, her costume from her appearance in WNO production of The Daughter of the Regiment in 2016, and some of her personal opera recordings, books, and memorabilia.

The 92nd Street Y will present the Jerusalem Quartet and Amanda Forsyth, cello, playing Schubert, Hadyn, and more on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 8pm ET as part of its fall classical music season, its first fully in-person season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 92nd Street Y will present Richard Goode, piano, playing Schubert, Schmann, and more on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 7:30pm ET as part of its fall classical music season, its first fully in-person season since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oh, sure, give us Missy Mazzoli, Nico Muhly, Laura Kaminsky, Kevin Puts, Terence Blanchard, Paul Moravec, Huang Ruo and all the other fabulous composers at work today. But let’s talk about Rossini--and it’s hard for anyone who attended the concert the other night at New York’s 92nd Street Y not to. With tenor Lawrence Brownlee, (bari)tenor Michael Spyres and pianist Myra Huang presenting us with a dizzying array of what Brownlee called “barnburner pieces, back to back,” there was not much more to do than stand up and scream for more.

The Kennedy Center will present the Washington National Opera musical event, Come Home: A Celebration of Return. The event will feature the musical stylings of Pretty Yende, Isabel Leonard, Lawrence Brownlee, Alexandria Shiner, David Butt Philip, Christian Van Horn, and more.

Throughout the month of October The Royal Opera House will present live-streamed performances featuring artists from both The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, alongside a range of archival content and dedicated social media takeovers from our global community of Black creatives and performers.
