Shaping Sound Tour Kicks off with Red Carpet Premiere

Shaping Sound, a new contemporary dance company, held their red carpet premiere last night at the El Portal Theatre in Los Angeles. Emmy-nominated choreographers and dance visionaries Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson, took the stage in front of the sold out crowd with ten world-class dancers to premiere a synergy of sight, sound, and movement. Company members have been featured on “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Dancing With The Stars,” andtoured internationally with recording artists and award-winning dance companies. (more...)

The new Broadway production of JEKYLL & HYDE, starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox, plays its final performance today, May 12, 2013, after 15 previews and 30 regular performances at the Marquis Theatre. Direct from a 25-week national tour which launched in October 2012, JEKYLL & HYDE began previews on Broadway on April 5 and opened on April 18, 2013. With a voice like whiskey and a laugh like pure joy, Janis Joplin took the music scene by storm. Simultaneously rough and vulnerable, Joplin was dubbed the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, proving music wasn't just a man's world anymore. Now, in a new musical event featuring more than a dozen singers and band members, playwright-director Randy Johnson creates 'a compelling portrait of an artist' (Culturemob) through the words, inspiration and music of one of America's greatest rock 'n' roll originals. One Night With Janis Joplin is a full-on concert experience and musical journey into the life and inspirations of one of rock 'n' roll's greatest legends and it runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from tonight, May 3 - June 2, 2013 and opens on Monday, May 6, 2013. Packed with classic songs ('Piece Of My Heart,' 'Summertime,' 'Mercedes Benz'), One Night With Janis Joplin also shines the spotlight on trailblazers who influenced Janis - like Bessie Smith, Etta James and Aretha Franklin. Over the past twenty four hours, many of America's most recognized brand names and Hollywood's biggest stars have joined millions of people around the world in sharing a modified red version of the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) logo in support of marriage equality. HRC, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, launched a social media campaign Monday afternoon in conjunction with two marriage cases before the Supreme Court this week, in an effort to raise awareness and help showcase the broad and diverse support for marriage equality.
