Continuing its long-standing support and connection to the African-American community, McDonald's® recognized a distinguished list of five prominent African-Americans who influence and inspire greatness through outstanding community service at the 2011 365Black® Awards. This year's 365Black Awards were co-hosted by nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner and Academy Award® nominated actress Angela Bassett and were held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. in New Orleans, La., at the start of the Essence Music Festival weekend.

Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT) celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special Gala at the historic Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street) last night, May 22nd. This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, was co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. Chairmen for the event were Laurence Fishburne, John Morning and Susan Taylor. The Honorary Chair was Dr. Maya Angelou. Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre (NFT) will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special Gala at the historic Edison Ballroom on Sunday evening, May 22nd. This special event saluting NFT, for 40 years a seminal force in Black Theater, will be co-hosted by Randall Pinkston (CBS News) and Lynn Whitfield. In addition to celebrating NFT's vital contribution to the arts internationally, the Gala will feature special awards for 13 individuals that changed the cultural life of our nation: Sidney Poitier, Ntozake Shange, Ruby Dee, Alicia Keys, Mayor David Dinkins, Imhotep Gary Byrd, George Faison, Amiri Baraka, Rev. Malcolm Boyd, Elizabeth McCann, Carla Pinza, Terrie Williams and Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin (for the National Black Theatre Festival).

Today the producers announced that Layon Gray's acclaimed new play, Black Angels Over Tuskegee, would continue its run at the Actors Temple Theater (339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues), beginning June 5th. It is currently at St. Luke's Theatre until Monday May 31st.

'Guiding Light' star Lawrence Saint-Victor will join the acclaimed new play, Black Angels Over Tuskegee, by Layon Gray, Monday, April 5th at St. Luke's Theatre, 308 West 46th Street (between Eighth & Ninth Ave.) Lawrence Saint-Victor is replacing Lamman Rucker in the cast, which also features Demetrius Gross, Thom Scott II, Antonio Charity, Layon Gray, David Wendell Boykins, Derek Shaun, Jay Jones, and Rich Skidmore.
