Jeff Buckley Musical, THE LAST GOODBYE, to Play Old Globe This October

The Old Globe will open its 2013-14 Season with The Last Goodbye, a new musical that marries Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh ("So You Think You Can Dance"), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The complete creative team and casting, as well as the remainder of the Globe's new season, will be announced at a later date. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Sept. 20 - Nov. 3, 2013. Preview performances run Sept. 20 - Oct. 5. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 6. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. Selections and music from Shaving, a new musical by writer/performer Alex Davis, will have its world premiere at Joe's Pub for one performance only, tonight, January 25, 2013 at 7pm. Based on his one-man-show, Alex Davis: Man of the Year, seen a year ago at the famed Knitting Factory Brooklyn, Shaving is a powerful rock musical memoir about love and self-transformation with music & lyrics by Alex Davis and a book by Alex Davis & Miranda Russo. Directed by Joseph Hendel and featuring a live band under the musical direction of Kris Kukul, Shaving features a cast of 7. In memory of the inimitable Whitney Houston, Broadway Remembers Whitney is a concert honoring one of the greatest icons and voices of our generation. Come join us as we pay homage to and join in a celebration of Whitney's life through an evening of her music, arranged in concert for, and sung by, some of Broadway's fiercest voices -- voices undeniably influenced and deeply moved by Whitney's presence and her artistry. Whitney Houston's music -- her iconic ballads, her dance hits that never missed a beat -- has been an undeniable force and source of inspiration for so many in the theatre community and beyond. Hence, it seems only right to remember the goddess herself by invoking this music and basking in the musical legacy she has left behind. We want to do our part to carry on Whitney's name -- as such, the proceeds of this concert will go to the The Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts, a school that aims to teach its students to become contributing members of society now and in the next century. (more...)
