Looking Ahead to the Boston Pops New Season with Bernadette Peters & More!

Recently, conductor Keith Lockhart was joined by Bernadette Peters to present the schedule for the Boston Pops’ Spring 2012 season. Peters was the guest during the Opening Night concert at Boston’s beautiful Symphony Hall. As stellar as she is, Peters is only one of the sensational artists who have been scheduled to appear with the Boston Pops which is celebrating its 127th season. On June 5th, 6th and 7th, Broadway’s Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley will perform “A Tribute to Cole Porter”. American Idol’s Melinda Doolittle will join Gospel singer Crystal Aitkin and Charles Floyd for the 20th Gospel Night Celebration on June 9th. Although many people know Steve Martin as a comic actor and playwright, he is also a very serious musician who will be bringing his bluegrass band, The Steep Canyon Rangers, to play with the Pops on May 29th and 30th. Anne Hampton Callaway, who is one of the premier interpreters of the American Songbook will bring her unique stylings to what is being billed as “The Barbra Streisand Songbook” on May 15th and 16th. Singer Maureen McGovern will join the Pops to sing selections from her Broadway show LITTLE WOMEN as a tribute to the novel’s author Louisa May Alcott. (more...)

The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced its 23nd season of world-class performing artists. The 2012-13 season includes 52 performances of 36 shows from a wide range of categories including Broadway, popular music, comedy, dance, classical music, world music and jazz, family offerings and theater. Ann Hampton Callaway Performs with Jazz Band Classic in the Allen Room, 5/23

The New York Youth Symphony’s Jazz Band Classic concludes its tenth season on Wednesday, May 23, 2009, at 7:30pm with “Sounds From The City,” featuring soloist Ann Hampton Callaway at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Matt Holman, director, the group will perform songs from New York City with music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Frank Sinatra, as well as a big band salute to Broadway. The Adjacent Possible by Evan Weiss, commissioned through the New York Youth Symphony’s acclaimed First Music program, will receive its world premiere. (more...)

Music/Words (www.musicwordsnyc.com), an interdisciplinary series founded and curated by NYC- based pianist Inna Faliks (www.innafaliks.com), continues its fourth season on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 6:00 pm with a performance at New York’s Cornelia Street Cafe featuring Faliks and guest pianist Clarice Assad at the piano along with soprano Samantha Malk and poet Irina Mashinski. The program will explore the sensuousness of early Schoenberg (with the Stefan Georgy poetry used in the songs), along with the passion of Mashinski’s poetry and Assad’s Brazilian music. The program includes Schoenberg’s Drei Klavierstucke, opus 11; his songs from Book of Hanging Gardens; and various improvisations by Ms. Assad based on Brazilian piano music. Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops Perform at Carnegie Hall in March

Three outstanding maestros—Kurt Masur, Christoph Eschenbach, and Stéphane Denève—will each conduct a program by the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in its annual visits to Carnegie Hall this March, with music ranging from large-scale Romantic choral music to twentieth-century Russian works. Between the second and third BSO programs, the Boston Pops returns to Carnegie Hall with conductor Keith Lockhart for the first time since 2000, for a program featuring the acclaimed trio Time for Three (making its Carnegie Hall debut) and a special tribute to the “King of Swing,” Benny Goodman, featuring BSO clarinetist Thomas Martin.
