ONE CHILD BORN: THE MUSIC OF LAURA NYRO is a one-woman cabaret style show that can only be called a labor of love. Co-written by Louis Greenstein and its star Kate Ferber, it grew out of Ferber's own adoration of Nyro since childhood and blossomed into a genuine tribute by including testimonials from a variety of fictional "Nyrotics" whose lives were impacted by the late singer-songwriter.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present the return of "We're Gonna Have To Ask You to Leave," a benefit concert to kick out cancer, on Monday, November 2 at 7pm. Scroll down for photos from the event!

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) presented Women of Note, a one-night-only concert event celebrating the women writers who are changing the landscape of musical theatre. Women of Note took place at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 W. 42nd St.) on Monday, July 20 at 8:00 pm.

The New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, just welcomed a star-studded lineup for its annual benefit concert. 'Broadway Stands Up for Freedom,' a celebratory event in honor of the recent Supreme Court victory for the freedom to marry, boasted performances by some of Broadway's finest last night at the NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place).

The American Repertory Theater expands its 2015/16 Season programming with the OBERON Presents series, featuring a range of artists, companies, and programs. I guess when you're are a writer of Stephen King's stature you can't help be subject to expectations that are often simply too hard to live up to. Most of the criticism directed at THE GHOST BROTHERS OF DARKLAND COUNTY centers around the book he's cooked up for the show. He and composer (and rock icon) John Mellencamp had been kicking around this idea for about a dozen years, and when it was finally staged it was savaged in a number of ways, with most of the vitriol centered on King's narrative. I wonder if those critics felt the same way a few days after they'd posted their reviews. For me, I've found that the haunting mix of music and imagery has lingered in my memory long after I'd thought it would abate. Charged acting, a terrific roots rock and blues-inflected score, and a story that plays upon simmering tensions that threaten to boil over for the McCandless family, combine to produce something truly special and worthy of appreciation.

The York Theatre Company just presented its one-night only benefit concert, NEO 10, celebrating up and coming musical theatre writers, on Monday evening, June 2, 2014 The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The NEO 10 concert featured songs by this year's NEO writers: Bobby Cronin, Gabriel Kahane, Shaina Taub, andSam Willmott. The evening will also include songs by guest writers (and past NEO honorees) Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The evening, directed by Annette Jolles, with music direction by David Shenton, included previously announced performances by Starr Busby, Liz Callaway, Kate Ferber, Grace Mclean, Andy Mientus, Kristin Sieh, Phillipa Soo, and the ensemble from Marymount Manhattan College.
