Stew, Heidi Rodewald and Michael Cerveris Set for Public Forum, 2/27

The Public Theater will continue the 2011-2012 Public Forum season in February with a night of conversation and songs featuring Stew, Heidi Rodewald and Michael Cerveris. This Public Forum event will coincide with the new musical, The Total Bent, premiering in February as part of the Public Lab series. This intimate evening featuring three great singer-songwriters will take place on Monday, February 27 at 9:30 p.m. at Joe’s Pub. Member tickets, priced at $15, are on sale now. Single tickets, priced at $20, go on sale Thursday, January 26. (more...)

The Public Theater Shifts THE TOTAL BENT Performances to Begin 2/24

The Public Theater announced new February dates today for THE TOTAL BENT by Stew and Heidi Rodewald and directed by Joanna Settle. The shift in dates for this Public Lab production is due to an unforeseen construction-related delay that prevented the show from getting into the theater on the scheduled start date. The Public Theater’s building renovation has been underway since fall 2008 and is expected to be completed on time this summer. (more...)

BAM! at the Tateuchi Democracy Forum at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, presenting colorful characters and fantastical universes only the world of animation could create. New programs added! Addition of 3 new shorts program, CHAINSAW MAID, STOOPID MOVIE, and WELCOME TO MY LIFE. Also don't miss the festival after party at Far Bar at 9:30pm. OSF Features New Commissions From Diaz, Friedman, Galati, Hudes, Stew & Rodewald

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company. STRANGE's Rodewald & Stew to Compose Original Score for Shakespeare on the Sound's OTHELLO, 6/15-26

Shakespeare on the Sound, Connecticut's premier outdoor summer theater company presenting free Shakespeare in the park, today announced that Obie award winning composer Heidi Rodewald will join forces with her writing partner Stew to compose the original music and songs that will be a part of the company's upcoming production of Othello, under the direction of Joanna Settle. Rodewald and Stew are perhaps best known for co-writing the musical Passing Strange, for which Stew won the Tony for Best Book of a Musical and which was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical and the 2008 Obie Award for Best New American Theater Piece. Currently in its 15th Season, Shakespeare on the Sound will present Settle's all-new production at two beautiful locations on Long Island Sound. The show will play Pinkney Park, Rowayton June 15 - 26, 2010 and Baldwin Park, Greenwich July 2 - 11, 2010. (more...)

Conceived & directed by Mabou Mines Co-Artistic Director Sharon Fogarty, and written by Jocelyn Clarke, this original theatrical work blends traditional storytelling and music with large-scale digital technology. Finn McCool, part mortal, part magical, battles his boyhood demons and emerges a young man ready to lead his band of men. Live performers interact with digital animation in a 21st century adaptation of a timeless legend.
