BWW Flashback: RENT Closes at New World Stages Today, September 9

The off-Broadway production of Rent will close after the performance today, September 9, at New World Stages. The production will have played 32 previews and 450 performances. Rent, which is written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif, opened at the theater on August 11, 2011. Emma Hunton, Josh Grisetti and Justin Johnston Join Cast of RENT

According to the show's Facebook page, Emma Hunton Josh Grisetti, and Justin Johnston will join the cast of off-Broadway's RENT on January 20. Johnston wrote on Twitter: 'That's right. I start Jan. 18 at New World Stages in NYC. Who knew... Roger'. Hunton added: 'So excited for rehearsal tomorrow. Make sure you all come down to New World Stages and come see Rent.' The trio will replace Annaleigh Ashford, Adam Chanler-Berat and Matt Shindledecker as Maureen, Mark and Roger. (more...)

Anthony Rapp to Direct BORN BLUE Benefit, 9/8

RENT alum Anthony Rapp (RENT, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown) will collaborate on a one night only reading of BORN BLUE, a new musical written by Caren Tackett (RENT, Hair). Proceeds from the event will benefit New York City based not-for-profit Broadway Impact.

RENT: The Broadway Tour held a special auction at the end of the 8PM show last night in Toronto with proceeds going to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Actor's Fund of Canada. It was a packed house and a generous crowd, and BWW was on hand to watch it unfold. (more...)
