Cleveland Orchestra Presents Neighborhood Residency in Gordon Square Arts District, Now thru 5/17

The Cleveland Orchestra presents its inaugural neighborhood residency in Northeast Ohio from today, May 11 through 17, 2013, in Cleveland's Gordon Square Arts District. During this first residency, the Orchestra will offer more than 15 events for the community throughout the week, including performances by Cleveland Orchestra musicians, ensembles from the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorus, a Cleveland Orchestra concert preview, and educational programs for local students. All of the events will be free and open to the public.

The Orpheum Theatre has announced the nominees for the 2013 High School Musical Theatre Awards. Modeled after the Tony Awards, The Orpheum's High School Musical Theatre Awards recognizes achievements in all areas of high school musical theatre. This event is part of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards program which includes 30 programs from across the country.

During this first residency, the Orchestra will offer 16 events in the community throughout the week, including performances by Cleveland Orchestra musicians, ensembles from the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorus, a Cleveland Orchestra concert preview, and educational programs for local students. All of the events will be free and open to the public. Leaders and representatives from Gordon Square businesses and associations have partnered with the Orchestra to plan and host the week's activities.

Fall Festival, THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN, Benjamin Britten and More Set for Cleveland Orchestra's 2013-14 Season

The Cleveland Orchestra has announced its 2013-14 season. Music Director Franz Welser-Most will introduce a Fall Festival, pairing symphonies by Beethoven and Shostakovich, and an all-Brahms weekend with two programs featuring Brahms's Violin Concerto and his Second and Fourth Symphonies. Mr. Welser-Most brings opera back to Severance Hall, with a semi-staged production of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen. Guest artists returning to Severance Hall include Leon Fleisher, Mitsuko Uchida, Radu Lupu, and conductors Christoph von Dohnanyi, Pierre Boulez, and Herbert Blomstedt. The Orchestra celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten with performances of his Spring Symphony, Violin Concerto, and Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings.

A near capacity crowd gathered at the Benedum Center as Pittsburgh CLO and the University of Pittsburgh honored Allegheny County's finest high school performers at the 20th Annual Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater on Saturday, May 29, 2010.
Named for legendary performer and Pittsburgh native Gene Kelly, the annual celebration emphasizes the importance of arts education and recognizes the time, energy and dedication that local high schools devote to their musical productions each spring.
