Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater’s Artistic Director Molly Smith has announced that this July 2012 D.C.-area arts manager and artist David Snider will become the company’s Director of Artistic Programming. Snider will be leaving Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), where he has served since 2005 as producing artistic director and CEO, to bring his multi-faceted, award-winning talents to the artistic team of Arena Stage. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff announced today that The Normal Heart, Larry Kramer’s landmark play focusing on the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City in the 1980s, will open the 2012–13 season this fall, playing Sep 13-Oct 7. (more...)

The Public Theater announced complete casting today for AS YOU LIKE IT, the first show of the 50th Anniversary season of free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, AS YOU LIKE IT will begin previews on Tuesday, June 5 and continue for four weeks through Saturday, June 30, opening on Thursday, June 21. (more...)

The Public Theater is presenting the world premiere of February House, with music and lyrics by Gabriel Kahane and book by Seth Bockley, beginning today, May 8th in The Public’s Martinson Theater, and running through June 10th. Three stars of the show – composer and lyricist Gabriel Kahane, actress Kacie Sheik, and actor Julian Fleisher have all been tapped by Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater for solo performances this June. The Public Theater will continue its popular Shakespeare Salon Series this month with an engaging conversation with Director Daniel Sullivan, who will talk about this summer’s upcoming Shakespeare in the Park production of AS YOU LIKE IT. Following its run at the Landor Theatre, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, based on Dickens’ final unfinished novel, with book, music and lyrics by Rupert Holmes, directed by Matthew Gould, will get a 4-week season at the Arts Theatre from Friday 18 May - Sunday 17 June.
