The first annual Broadway Bee, featuring Paige Davis (Chicago), Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland), Tony winner Christian Borle (Something Rotten), and Jose Llana (The King and I) took place just last night at The Cutting Room (44 E. 32nd St). Proceeds benefit Broadway Bound Kids, a NYC performing arts education organization. Ten teams, each representing a Broadway show, were encouraged to pull out all the stops to correctly spell the words. The more funds each team raised, the more they were allowed to cheat! 

Award-winning actor and playwright John Cariani (Something Rotten!) will be the Comfort Counselor for the first annual Broadway Bee, featuring Paige Davis (Chicago), Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland), Tony winner Christian Borle (Something Rotten), and Jose Llana (The King and I)  in an adults only spelling bee, on Monday, May 9 at 7pm at The Cutting Room (44 E. 32nd St). The cast of new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which opened on April 21st and closed on May 10th, 2015 at the Broadway Theatre, hit the recording studio this spring to prepare for the release of the show's original cast recording, which is now available via Broadway Records HERE. Authors include composer Lucy Simon (The Secret Garden), lyricists Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) and Amy Powers (the two multi-platinum Sunset Boulevard hits) and book writer Michael Weller (screenwriter for Hair and Ragtime). Based on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize-winning 20th-century epic Russian masterpiece, Doctor Zhivago is directed by Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys), with a book by Michael Weller (Ragtime), music byLucy Simon (The Secret Garden), lyrics by Michael Korie (Grey Gardens) and Amy Powers (Ella Enchanted), and choreography by Kelly Devine (Rocky).
