The Lilies of the Field comes to Open Window Theatre this spring. The production is adapted for the stage by F. Andrew Leslie from the novel by William E. Barrett, and is directed by Kari Steinbach.

This Friday, Anjimile Chithambo, better known as Anjimile, releases his new album, The King. His debut release for 4AD and first full-length since 2020’s breakthrough Giver Taker, the record includes recently released singles: powerful title track “The King,” the gently emotive “Father,” protest song “Animal,” and a new single out now, “Black Hole.” 

Like the rest of The King, every sound heard on “Animal” comes from two instruments: an acoustic guitar and Anjimile’s own voice. Throughout, Anjimile’s feelings of rage and frustration are tinged with sardonicism, and the song is accompanied by an equally potent video directed by Robby Operman.

Earlier this year, he shared “The King,” accompanied by a lyric video visualizer inspired by the work of Daniela Yohannes, the artist behind the cover art. 'Father,” with its thrumming, recalls Giver Taker’s soft, stirring folk. Anjimile needs little more than his voice and a guitar, played by Brad Allen Williams, to draw forth deep emotions.

CONVERSE BASIN sings, plays guitar, and has been a house DJ for 20 years, drawing from a wide variety of influences to fuse his passions for dance, techno, electronic, and indie music. The debut CONVERSE BASIN album OCEANS WILL NEVER KEEP US APART will drop in June.

The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC and The Americas Research Network (ARENET) announce the world premiere of Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers / Soñadores + creadores del cambio, on display at MOA from May 12, 2022–January 1, 2023.

Singer-songwriter-guitarist José González today releases the El Invento EP, the first in a series of EPs that will revisit the singles of his latest album, Local Valley. Included in this new offering is an airy, polyrhythmic remix by rising Peruvian artist Sofia Kourtesis as well as choral and dub reimaginings recorded by González himself.
