The Valencia College Theater is proud to announce its upcoming 2013-2014 season of productions. This year, Valencia is adding a new element to each theatrical production -- a talk-back session during the run of the show. Beginning today, June 15th, Charlie Williams will be the new Dream Hannibal in Off-Broadway's long-running smash SILENCE! THE MUSICAL at the Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square. SILENCE! announced this week that it will end its triumphant two-year run Sunday, July 7th. The show's producer, Theater Mogul, is currently negotiating licensing deals for futureSILENCE! productions to open during the 2013-14 season in major markets across the country and around the world. Olney Theatre Center Announces CABARET, THE PIANO LESSON and More for 2014 Season

Olney Theatre Center Artistic Director Jason Loewith announced the company would scrap its traditional subscription format while producing an ambitious slate of three seasons and nine productions for the Theatre's 2014 76th Anniversary Season. Three "mini-seasons" will feature Rolling World Premieres, 20th century American classics, four extraordinary musicals and an outdoor Shakespeare production beneath the stars. (more...)

Auditorium Theatre's Summer Cabaret Series to Kick Off with Music of Kander & Ebb, 7/20

'Come hear the music play...' this summer at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (50 E Congress Pkwy) and the Katten/Landau studio (425 S Wabash, 4th Floor) when both spaces are transformed into an intimate cabaret hosting some of the city's most talented performers. The series kicks off in the Katten/Landau Studio on Saturday, July 20 with 'Life is a Cabaret - The Music and Words of Kander and Ebb' featuring Scott Gryder, Nick Sula and Phil Martin and continues on Saturday, August 10 with 'The Greg Spero Trio,' as Spero treats the audience to both original songs from his new album as well as everyone's favorite jazz tunes. The series culminates on Saturday, August 24 when the audience sits on the Auditorium's world-famous landmark stage to hear 'Chicago Music Legends' featuring Frank D'Rone, Judy Roberts and Denise Tomasello. I hardly know where to begin with this review of the Bohemian Theatre Ensemble's gutsy, stripped-down and yet somehow epic production of “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” the musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally that is running at Theatre Wit through June 30, 2013. There, I guess I just began. I'm a jumble of thoughts and feeling right now. Come to think of it, so are the three principal characters. (more...)

Today in 1975, Chicago opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre), where it ran for 936 performances. Chicago is a musical set in Prohibition-era Chicago, with music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the 'celebrity criminal'.
