Simon Godwin is no stranger to the work of Shakespeare. Until May 5, his production of Macbeth is playing in D.C. with a cast led by Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma. The film version of this same production will hit theaters on May 2. BroadwayWorld sat down with Godwin to discuss his take on Shakespeare’s tragedy, Fiennes’ performance, and what the play means for contemporary audiences.

English composer Benjamin Britten is writing The Turn of the Screw. Based on a novella by Henry James, it follows the worries of a young governess sent to the countryside to take care of a pair of children. As Britten is building his melodies, the government is working hard to shut down the influence of what they call “high profile homosexuals’’ (think John Gielgud and friends).

Martin McCallum, FRSA, has passed away at age 73.

Elton John is now an EGOT. He won a Tony Award in 2000 for Best Original Score for Aida with Tim Rice. He was awarded with his first Oscar in 1995 for 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' from the Lion King. The Motive and the Cue is headed to cinemas in the UK beginning in March! The production, which closes in the West End on 23 March, will be showing on the big screen beginning just days before on 21 March.

Producers Playful Productions has announced the full cast for the West End return of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ record breaking collaboration The Unfriend. Rehearsals are underway ahead of performances beginning at the Wyndhams’ Theatre on 16 December.
