Today, the spotlight falls upon Gregory Pember, who is currently onstage at Clarksville’s Roxy Regional Theatre, opening tonight in the Tony Award-winning Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical Spring Awakening, based on German playwright Frank Wedekind’s play of the same name. Greg takes on the role of Moritz Stiefel, the dreamy-eyed, nervous and sex-obsessed teenager with the interesting hair in the recent Broadway and touring productions—and the role that won John Gallagher Jr. the Tony Award for Featured Actor in a Musical. Just released tonight is the first trailer for Aaron Sorkin's new HBO drama, 'The Newsroom' a new hour long series premiering this June that centers on the behind-the-scenes workings of a cable news statio. The series is filled with theatre vets and will star Jeff Daniels as the show's anchorman, Emily Mortimer as his executive producer, Sam Waterson as the station's boss and a newsroom staff that includes actors Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel and Thomas Sadoski. Award-winning actress Jane Fonda also is in the cast as the network parent company's CEO, Leona Lansing. (more...)

The explosive Broadway hit "American Idiot" will be presented in Los Angeles next spring as part of Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre's 2011-2012 season at the Los Angeles Music Center. The 2010 Tony Award®-nominated Best Musical, called "thrillingly raucous" and "emotionally charged" by Charles Isherwood of The New York Times, will be presented March 14 through April 22, 2012, at the Ahmanson Theatre, with the opening set for March 16. Tony Award-winning actress Alice Ripley was the special surprise guest at the Broadway Artists Alliance 2011 Winter Workshop. Ripley had a Q&A with the students of Broadway Artists Alliance. She surprised the students with a performance of her new single "Beautiful Eyes," and a song from Next to Normal. (more...)

Broadway stars including cast members from Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Ben Walker, Kate Roberts, and Erin Felgar), American Idiot (John Gallagher Jr., Theo Stockman, Rebecca Jones and Libby Winters) and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Celia Keenan-Bolger and Sarah Saltzberg) gathered and sang Monday night at Colt Coeur's 2nd Annual Karaoke Classic Benefit in Brooklyn. Rightor Doyle, Mamie Gummer and Celia Keenan-Bolger chaired the event which raised funds for Play Hotel (Colt Coeur's ongoing reading series, and their principal arena for developing new work) as well as their next production.
