New York Live Arts is set to present several Re: Awakenings performances as part of the inaugural Live Ideas festival. New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works. Tonight, February 6, medici.tv will present a live webcast of the historic world premiere production of The Perfect American, Philip Glass's new opera about Walt Disney. At 75, Glass is one of the towering figures of 20th-century music, and perhaps the most successful composer alive today. The world premiere of his new opera will take place at Madrid's Teatro Real, which commissioned the piece. (more...)

Gotham Chamber Opera announces its 2012-2013 season of three productions, featuring two site-specific works. The season begins with GOTHAM @ LPR: ORIENTALE on October 1 and 3, 2012 at (Le) Poisson Rouge and continues with the New York Premiere of Francesco Cavalli's ELIOGABALO(1667) from March 15-29, 2013 at The Box, staged by James Marvel. The season will conclude in June with a production of Daniel Catán's 1988 opera, LA HIJA DE RAPPACCINI (Rappaccini's Daughter), in site-specific venues. (more...)
