William Shakespeare's HENRY V is quite possibly his most well-known and celebrated history play. The famous climatic St. Crispin's day speech is full of nationalistic and patriotic rhetoric that resonates deep within the soul, mind and body while quickening the blood. Luckily for Houston audiences, Main Street Theater and Prague Shakespeare Company, Continental Europe's premiere professional English-language classical theatre company, is currently presenting a stellar production of William Shakespeare's HENRY V. Main Street Theater introduces Houston to this delightful play which has only been produced twice before in the U.S.: once in New York in 1947 and once in New York earlier in 2012. "I am so glad that the Gellhorn and Cowles Estates granted us the rights for this prodcuction," says Rebecca Greene Udden, Main Street Theater's Executive Artistic Director. Main Street Theater is offering Houstonians an unparalleled delight with their production of Martha Gellhorn and Virginia Cowles' play LOVE GOES TO PRESS. The play found success in London in 1946 and then moved across the pond to New York in 1947. It opened January 1 and closed on January 4. The play was not touched again in the United States until earlier in 2012 when the Mint Theater revived it. With a strong and talented cast and crew, Main Street Theater is presenting the Regional Premiere of the mad cap, romantic, and charmingly feminist comedy, running now through December 23, 2012. On NBC's The Voice, the singers have been through quite a journey thus far.So now, they have come to the Knock-Out Rounds, which are the only obstacle between these contestants and the even more important live show. Tonight, singers from Team Adam Levine and Team CeeLo Green sang, but Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera were still there to give input. (more...)

Every single one of the contestants tonight had something to prove, whether for themselves personally, or for family, they gave these performances all they had. On NBC's THE VOICE the blind auditions came to a close and coaches Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton each filled up their teams of 16 artists for season three. On Tuesday, October 2 (8-9 p.m. ET), a special "Best of the Blind Auditions" airs featuring never before seen footage of the coaches and each team. (more...)

Everything old is new again, but some classic treasures just sparkle and shine brighter than others. After taking in a performance of Bayou City Concert Musicals' ONE TOUCH OF VENUS, I am surprised that this is its first performance in Houston. The show, which became a starring vehicle for the legendary Mary Martin, originally opened on Broadway on October 7, 1943 ran for 567 performances. Kurt Weill's score is infectious and poppy, and Ogden Nash's lyrics compliment the comedic plot with the right amounts of sap and zing to completely entertain and enthrall. ONE TOUCH OF VENUS is a delightful piece that is truly deserving of Bayou City Concert Musicals' splendid resurrection and concert staging. Houston owes great multitudes of thanks to Paul Hope and Bayou City Concert Musicals for programming this show, giving audiences an opportunity to see something that is old yet new and fresh to us all at the same time. National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) held its Annual Chairman's Awards Gala and benefit yesterday, Monday, April 19 at the St. Regis New York hotel. This year, NCTF Chairman James S. Turley, Chairman & CEO of Ernst & Young, honored Nathan Lane (currently starring on Broadway in The Addams Family), set designer Eugene Lee (Wicked) and Wells Fargo & Company. Accepting the award on behalf of Wells Fargo was Joe Kirk, Regional President for New York and Connecticut. All net proceeds of the event will be distributed as the NCTF/WELLS FARGO FUND FOR NEW AMERICAN THEATRE. Special guest Bette Middler stopped by to congratulate the nominees. (more...)
