Mel Brooks to Appear on JIMMY KIMMEL Tonight, Announces Upcoming Interviews

American Masters Mel Brooks: Make a Noise, the newest film in the American Masters series, will premiere nationally Monday, May 20 at 9pm ET/PT on PBS (check local listings), and will be released on DVD by Shout! The 2nd Annual Hope Rising Benefit took plays this week at Roy Thomson Hall to benefit the Stephen Lewis AIDS Foundation, an organization that helps women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Annie Lennox returned to Toronto for one night only to lend her gorgeous vocals to the cause, along with Canadian sensation Sarah McLachlan and African singer Angelique Kidjo. Hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, the very special evening was both heartbreaking and inspiring. BWW was on hand to capture photos from the event. (more...)

The Toronto Symphony's 2012-2013 Pops Season kicks off this week with Some Enchanted Evening, the first show of newly appointed Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke's new season. The evening pays tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, and joining Steven are Ashley Brown, Aaron Lazar and Jonathan Estabrooks. Originally from Canada, Jonathan took a few minutes to talk to BWW about his journey so far, and about why young people should come check this show out. (more...)

On Tuesday June 21st The National Ballet of Canada transformed Toronto's Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts into a MAD HOT Wonderland for their annual fundraising gala. Karkwa to Receive Polaris Music Prize for Best Canadian Album, 9/21

Karkwa was named the winner of the fifth annual Polaris Music Prize. This award, given to signify the best Canadian album of the year, was presented tonight at the gala ceremony held at CTV's Concert Hall at the Masonic Temple in Toronto. In addition to bragging rights, Karkwa take home $20,000 for their album Les Chemins de Verre. (more...)

The 31st Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards for the 2009/2010 season were handed out in a star-studded ceremony on the evening of Monday, June 28 at Toronto's in the Bluma Appel Theatre of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, hosted by the celebrated CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi. The Dora Mavor Moore Awards are produced and presented on behalf of the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) and celebrate excellence in Toronto theatre, dance and opera. The 225 Dora-eligible shows opened between June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. A total of 35 Dora Awards plus the Silver Ticket Award, the Pauline McGibbon Award and the Audience Choice Award were given out. (more...)

On June 29th, 2009, the best of the best of Canada's Theatre scene all gathered together to celebrate the 30th Anniversary Dora Awards. Named after Dora Mavor Moore, the awards are given out annually in five different categories: General Theatre, Indepedent Theatre, Dance, Opera and Theatre for Young Audiences. This year, Agokwe, from Ojibwa artist Waawaate Fobister won a leading six awards. (more...)
