Folger Theatre Presents THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS, Beginning 10/23

The Folger Theatre continues its 2012/13 season with the Washington premiere of The Conference of the Birds, a theatrical adventure based on the poignant 12th-century Persian fable by Farid Uddi Attar about the search for the divine and the quest for truth. Beginning performances on October 23, the production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award-winner Aaron Posner (Cyrano, Macbeth at Folger) and will feature original music composed and performed by renowned musician and Helen Hayes Award-winner Tom Teasley. Working Theater Presents THE BEST OF THEATERWORKS: STORIES FROM THE 99%, 6/14-17

Working Theater presents the Off-Broadway production of The Best of TheaterWorks!: Stories from the 99%. The production will feature six of the best short plays to come out of Working Theater's TheaterWorks! program. The 10-year old program teaches working men and women (bus drivers, doormen, 911 operators, DMV workers etc.) to write and perform their own short plays about their experiences at work. The classes end with a stage reading style performance where the students are teamed with professional actors and directors. This production however will be fully realized by a professional cast and crew. (more...)

A staged reading of Jean Genet's THE SCREENS will be held on Monday March 26, 7:30pm at the Red Bull Theater. Directed by Tracy Cameron Francis and translated by Paul Schmidt, it is an epic exploration of the Algerian Arab revolt against their French colonizers which exalts the individual and relishes the theatrical.
