The San Francisco Fringe Festival has lived on the edge for 22 years. Along with the jugglers and the clowns, the witty solo shows and sketch comedy, The Fringe is known for delving into the arena of S-E-X. On the latter note, this year is no exception.

After reviewing more than 3,000 plays over a dozen years, Dallas, Texas, theater critic Elaine Liner wrote one she wanted to see. Her one-woman comedy Sweater Curse: A Yarn about Love debuts at this summer's Edinburgh Festival Fringe at 1:15 p.m. daily, August 1-26, at Sweet/Grassmarket International 4 (Venue 18).

Nylon Fusion Theatre Company presents two world-premiere one-act works by Don Nigro Marina and Mata Hari, at Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, about two women who bravely faced personal battles as they were caught up in the turmoil of the two world wars. Directed by Ivette Dumeng, and starring Tatyana Kot in the title roles, with Curtis James Nielsen, Marina and Mata Hari will be performed together at the Robert Moss Theatre at 440 Lafayette Street beginning tomorrow, June 15th.

Sam Kelley's The Blue Vein Society and No Hidin' Place takes us back to a time and place in late nineteenth-century America when African Americans struggled to achieve human dignity against oppressive interracial and intraracial barriers that promoted a segregated culture rooted in class and color. These powerful dramas, based on two short stories by African American fiction writer, Charles Chesnutt, examine complicated family and social dynamics that resonate with disturbing power for today's world where both class and color continue to matter.
