RECOVERED VOICES Released on Blu-Ray, 11/16

LA Opera's productions of rarely performed works as part of the Company's Recovered Voices series conducted by Music Director James Conlon were filmed for release on DVD and Blu-ray. The 2008 double-bill of Alexander Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg (The Dwarf) and Viktor Ullmann's Der zerbrochene Krug (The Broken Jug) is available now, and the 2009 presentation of Walter Braunfels' Die Vögel (The Birds) will be released on November 16, 2010. The videos, released on the Arthaus Musik label, will be distributed by Naxos Music. ( more...)

Last night, on Monday May 3, the New York Pops joined forces with stars of the stage to celebrate Frank Sinatra as part of the Pop's 27th Birthday Concert and Gala. Entitled The Best Is Yet To Come: Celebrating the Legacy of Frank Sinatra, the event took place at Carnegie Hall and was hosted by Liz Smith. With school out, snow on the ground and kids eagerly anticipating toys under the tree, the holidays are the ideal time for family entertainment. Note, for the record, that I didn't say "children's entertainment." There is a world of difference between entertaining kids and entertaining an entire family. On Saturday, September 5, 2009 through Monday, September 7, 2009, the Kennedy Center hosts its eighth annual Page-to-Stage New Play Festival, featuring more than 30 theaters from the D.C. metropolitan area, all with a mission to produce and support new work. The three-day, Center-wide event offers a series of free readings and open rehearsals of plays and musicals being developed by local, regional, and national playwrights, librettists, and composers. The Who's Tommy Extends Until 7/6 In Los Angeles

Flicker House Productions announced today a one-week extension of their new production of The Who's Tommy. The production will now run through July 6, when it must close, at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood.
