The 55th Annual Village Voice OBIE Awards were presented on Monday, May 17, 2010, at a ceremony held at Webster Hall in Manhattan. Co-hosted by Michael Cerveris and former OBIE winner Anika Noni Rose, the awards were presented by J. The Village Voice announced today that the hit Broadway musical FELA! will perform at the 55th Annual Village Voice OBIE Awards on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Webster Hall. FELA!-which is produced by Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, among others-is a musical based on the life and music of the iconic African composer and performer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

The New Group's world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan's play The Starry Messenger, at Theatre Row has extended one week. The production to now close on Saturday, December 19. The New Group is presenting the world premiere of The Starry Messenger as the first production in its 2009-2010 season. This production is playing a limited Off-Broadway engagement, that began previews on October 26 with an official opening night on November 23. Prompter on Hand for First Week of THE STARRY MESSENGER

According to the cast, a prompter will be on hand for the first week of performances of THE STARRY MESSENGER. As the director/writer Kenneth Lonergan continually made changes up to the first preview performance, actors felt they would be more comfortable on stage with a line prompter in the first row to assist them if they got stuck. Due to the last minute rewrites, the cast was unable to hold a full run through with an audience prior to the first preview. The New York Times reports that during the first preview on Monday, an audience member estimated that the show's star, Matthew Broderick, called out for about 10 lines throughout the night.

Scott Cunningham - a founding member of Drama Dept. and The Vineyard Community of Artists, who died at age 47 due to pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome on June 20 - today (Monday, August 17) at 4:00pm at the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street).
